Marty, slow down. The Dodge is a "hemi" engine. To say it's nothing like the original is showing some ignorance. The original was 426 ci and was originally developed for racing, but the new engine is a "hemi". "Hemi" isn't a name it's the design of the heads. The term HEMI references the hemispherical combustion chambers in the engine's heads. The chamber design puts the intake/exhaust valves in-line, rather than side-by-side. This
allows for better flow of air through the head. The spark plug in the center of the chamber creates a better ignition of the fuel/air. Both of these major aspects help make hemi-type engines produce more efficiency and power.

Trust me, the new "hemi" with a supercharger has easily produced upper 400 hp numbers. With some mild modifications it will easily produce over 500 hp. Some actually consider it a better designed engine for power than the 5.4 modular motor. Don't take a supercharged hemi truck lightly. It will give you all you want and maybe even more.

Don't get caught up in the commercials, as all the top 3 (Ford, Chevy and Dodge) have produced some pretty lame ones with exagerated claims. The Ram Hemi can be a very competitive foe if equiped properly. The stock hemi compared to a stock 5.4 will usually win and has potential to increase performance. I wouldn't be surprised to see a supercharged Hemi in a year or two in the SRT Ram as it would be more cost effective than the Viper engine. It would be great to see more supercharged Hemi Ram trucks around at the tracks as it would make for a very competitive class. Competition makes everybody better.

beers:

Sorry about the double posting, but it seems this website is obviously experiencing some problems. I tried to edit it, but it won't let me.

I was able to go in and fix it. Seems they have the bugs worked out in the forum.

Actually, the original was 331 c.i. if I remember right.

?

True the H.P. is about 40 more but it does weigh more
Huh?

Gen 1 L: 245 HP

HEMI ram :345 HP. that is a 100 HP difference. Go watch a STOCK hemi get dynoed. Those engines are either NOT making 345 HP, or there are MASSIVE powertrain losses with the Dodge. A stock gen 1 L with a perfect launch against a stock HEMI with a perfect launch will beat the hemi every time.

why are any of you bothering to say that "if I throw a blower on this" BS. If it doens't come stock that way then ****. With that money Our L's can throw a KB on and still whup their ***. you might wanna reconsider posting on the L forum if you're argueing their point about blower vs non.

Hey Unoid,

No reason to act like an immature azz and tell people to ****. I just don't like to see people be ignorant to the real facts. Whether it comes stock with a blower or not isn't even an issue. How many L's are stock on here? I was just pointing out the potential of what the Hemi can produce. Kenne Bell even raves at the potential a Hemi has. Hemi isn't some mystical name that conjurs up spirits of performance past. It's a technical design of the head for an engine, and one that reaps great benefits to performance mods, just as the 5.4 does. Only ignorant people close thier eyes blindly to the competition and . The more you know about the competition the better equiped you are to stay ahead of them.

I'm a Ford man and have been all my life, but I'm not so ignorant to realize that other makes of cars and trucks have some great technology and have the potential to be very competitive. If you're bothered by discussions that deal with real information about the competition then I suggest you switch to the Disney forum. I'm sure they have a Peter Pan forum over there for you to discuss La La Land. Good day.

I can understand what MaxTorque02 is saying but the fact remains you can “only” compare apples to apples and when doing so the HEMI has “nothing” for the Lightning. The HEMI is slow and no go from the factory.

It does not matter what kind of power can be made with the HEMI if someone goes and mods it. The fact remains that a stock Lightning can spank a stock HEMI every day of the week and twice on Sunday…

You can only compare stock to stock and not modded against modded. Once you start modding then its all about who has more money and not the motor anymore.

I totally agree with that statement, but you would also have to say that there is no other truck in a stock Lightnings class other than an SRT Ram now. It just seems some members in here are really hung up on this hemi thing.

A RAM 1500 with a Hemi should be compared to a F150 5.4 and a Silverado 5.3 or 6.0. I was only showing the potential of what the new Hemi could be capable of. If I were Dodge, I would build the next Ram SRT with a supercharged Hemi and it would be great to see a Silverado SS short bed, regular cab with a 5.3 or 6.0 supercharged. Then we would have 3 trucks that can easily be compared and the modding wars could begin. The Toyota Tundra could throw a wrench into the war also if they decided to up the ante and produce a supercharged Tundra, as they have shown some nice potential also.

Actually, the 93-95 L's were underated right from the start. That was the same time period when the 5.0's were rated at 215 H.P. Although the 5.0 was "shy" 10 h.p. the 351 gt40 motors(including the Cobra R's) were dynoed aanywhere from 290-305 horses.Speculation was that Ford didn't want to have their truck "steal the thunder" from their flagship 93 Cobra's and kept the rating that way through 95. This is common knoledge in the Gen I community. BTW, a gen I will not beat a shortbed 1500 Hemi everytime. Its whoever gets the holeshot that will be the victor.I have driven both and until you do you cannot make that assumtion. No flame just fact.

I might be wrong but Toyota has a full line of superchargers for their engines to include the Tundra.

Only if you like to walk in the snow!
Or, you could get the new tailgate heater that Dodge came out with this year, that way your hands don't get cold while you're pushing your P.O.S.!
