I know that we all love our Ford trucks but do you know the history behind Ford and Dodge? Just to pass the time, here it is.
The Dodge Brothers
1901:
Ransom Olds approaches the brothers to produce 2,000 engines for his new curved dash olds, thereby launching the Dodge name into Detroit's fledgling automotive industry.
1902:
Ransom Olds increases his order to 3,000 transmissions.
Henry Ford first approaches the brothers with his plans for a new automobile. The brothers agree to produce what essentially the entire chassis for Ford’s new automobile (engines, transmissions, and axles mounted on frames—everything but the body, wheels, and tires).
The brothers become 10% stockholders in the new Ford Motor Company as part of the contract with Ford, taking a risk with what is initially a large expense. However, they soon see returns on the investment when sales of the early Ford automobiles begin to take off.
1913:
Due to their increasing unhappiness with decisions made by Henry Ford, John Dodge declines to renew contracts with Ford Motor Company, and steps down as the Ford Company's Vice-President. The brothers begin planning production of their own Dodge automobile.
So Ford's early autos were built by Dodge. It was the Dodge brothers early ideas that built up Ford to what it is today. Just a little history, so flame me if you want to.
