Unhappy Blew my engine!

My baby died.......I threw a rod through the block. Oil was everywhere.....blood on the ground... Was running a diablo chip and 4lb pulley. Ford just came back and said 'no warrenty'. Any ideas....other than crying, which I have been doing a lot of..........about where I can get a bare block. Ford only sells a complete engine. This time I am doing it right with the PSP lower end kit(CP pistons etc...), and need a bare block so I can build it from scratch. Beware all who have aggresive chips, it will cost some unneeded heartache thats for sure!

2 points for admitting that you have an agressive chip.

Thats why I posted this a few weeks ago

unlucky owners:(

What were your rpms and shift points, redline reset? The reason I ask is - supercharged engines are somewhat new to me. Any time Ive seen a thrown rod in an engine, it was from crazy rpms. Has anyone thrown a rod with the stock rev limiter and shift points unaltered? Are Lightnings tossing rods because of too much boost or detonation? I would think too much boost would melt/burn pistons, valves, rings etc,,,and that big rpms are the killer of rods???

Exactly...too much boost and an aggressive chip. Diablo is getting known for this..maybe other makes as well.(?) Fact of the matter is, you cannot safely run an aggressive chip and over than a 2lb pulley without running a serious risk of doing harm. From what I have researched lately ..(talking with GOOD tuners), you cannot just bolt on a few things without changing other items (like pistons, going to forged rods). I guess the instant gratification doesn't warrent the problems in the long run.

Has anyone had a rod problem on a stock Lightning? If not, we need to stop bashing Ford and trying to get them to pay for repairs on engines with modifications.

If you're going to raise horsepower/torque/RPM's above design levels, you either need to beef up the parts that tend to break, or take responsibility for the damage that occurs.

I think I am. Nowhere did I blame Ford. All I am asking is information on where to buy a bare block. I think most guys understand the risk they take by putting mods on. I just didn't do my research enough.

I blew mine too man, welcome to the club. I called SVT and asked them if they could recommend a specific chip or so forth, the guy said they were not allowed to do that, but he did tell me that the most cases he'd seen with blown motors were trucks with Diablo chips in them....also told me the chip that he heard the least amount of problems out of....you can PM me if you wanna know, I'm not gonna start a war on here.

As for the block you can still get the 99 block, I have the part number somewhere, the 03 has thicker webbing, but the cylinder wall are thinner, or so I'm told, so there is really no problem with the block anyways, it's the rods and detonation.

Sorry about the truck. You might want to check on NLOC for the Washington State chapter. I know some people on there have been building blocks locally in Everett I think. \\

BTW I'm guessing you saw the game last night. I got back and managed to see the last 5min of the game and overtime. Who cares if it was a sloppy goal. Man that King is an impressive rookie.

I'm Still getting to know this Ford Modular Motor, always been a 5.0 guy. But can you use a 5.4 block from the regular f-150s and so on. What are the differences.

your recourse is to go after Diablo.

Ford voided your warranty becasue they feel the chip did it. If thats the case, Diable should replace the engine.

Talk to a lawyer.

Sorry to hear you blew your engine..

You can blow your engine with no chip. What kind of statement is this Diablo is getting known for this All the chip makers have been blamed. You need to listen for detonation for the first few minutes each time you drive your vehicle. I see you are from Canada, You must have got on your truck pretty hard in some very cold weather???

Bare block, Did you try your local Ford dealer?

You guys are funny, go after Diablo.

This is funny to.. (talking with GOOD tuners), Hopefully you are talking about the top 3 JLP, JDM, PSP...

WaveBlaster785,

I'm sure the SVT guy told you that?

Diablo didn't warranty that their product wouln't cause engine damage. My 2001 Lightning threw a rod back in October 2001 with a Diablo chip. I never asked for an aggressive chip and I was only running a 3lb lower and a metco interchangeable upper.
