Motors blow because they are too lean
or have too high a timing, NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE DIABLO.
I admitt I have run into some scary Diablo "off the shelf"
programs, and some 1/2 a$$ tuners that have no clue what they're doing, but you won't run into that with any of our tuners. All brands have that same horror story. Just think about how many L owners are out there with Hi Octane,
Hi Timing, Aggresive, Lean Tunes, --> TONS ARE (and all brands).
Think about how many times someone has posted a Dyno Pic with insane A/F's, THATS WHEN YOU BLEW A MOTOR.

If you ask for a 100+ Octane, High Timing, Aggresive Tune,
you are clearly pushing your luck on a stock block.
Like I've been saying for 2yrs now, I race and drive the streets on the same program, AND on the same PUMP GAS, twice I have added Race Fuel BUT NOT BECAUSE I HAD TOO, just because I was shooting for my best ET's and wanted all advantages. I've been living on this and 5 other Forums for some years now and I see the opposite, if anything Diablo is the least blown motors, thats just a easy name to stick in Fords Head,
SURE BLAME IT ON THE DEVIL

I'VE BEEN RUNNING WITH THE DEVIL FOR 2 YEARS,
2 Chips, 10 Programs, and 3 tuners.
I run 14-16 lbs of boost 24/7, I run 75 HP of Nitrous Often,
Nitrous runs are done w 16 degrees, and gasoline w 18 degrees.
Oh ya, and my shift points are 5700 to 6000 RPM with no limiter
anywhere before that.

Why do I get away with it, thats easy

RICH RICH RICH TUNE
AND ULTRA 94

That really isn't the point. The difference in price between good rods and the stock rods would have been small and would have let a lot of owners sleep better at night. It is just one more example of Ford missing the forest for the trees.
Isn't buying a Diablo chip in and of itself asking for an agressive chip?

As for wanting to sue Diablo or Ford... What the hell is wrong with you people?! Learn to accept responsibility for your own actions! You changed the computer programming, crammed more boost into the engine, and all without strengthening the engine. Then something lets go and you want someone else to pay for it? Grow up.

I'm totally blaming Diablo for my high horsepower...

ALL chips diablo,autologic and superchips have "blown" up Lightning engines. It's whats flashed on the chip that matters...People must check their tunes and ask questions...

I guess you are right on that one. There are more people on this site who have blown engines with Diablo chips than any other company...They must be pretty agressive.
BTW, I have made my quickest runs with a diablo chip from from JL. So please don't flame me.

ford sells bare blocks, I just bought one a month or two ago, and a forged crank, and two '03 heads.

 

Sucks that you blew your motor man....

Its not the Chip, Its who tunes the chip...

Some tuners like to add more timing and less fuel to lean out the mix some, this makes more power and gives better ET's, which in turn makes the "TUNER" look better.

If you got a mail order chip, and just put it in your truck you are to blame. Each truck is different and the same program and mods on 2 trucks may act WAY different.

Again, there are Tuners that like to put you on the edge so you can get a ET and be happy.

I always had a VERY rich tune no matter what the timing...

Stock motor, 18lbs of Boost (even a aftermarket blower)
26,xxx+ miles wile I had it
1223 Track 1/4 mile passes
Nightly Street playing

And never had a issue...



But it did take me awhile to get my truck tuned right. The first chips I had use to make me Melt Down plugs right offen, I changed chip styles and tuner and it went away but I had the same power level.... Hmmm how is that?

You can make PLENTY of power with less a aggressive tune... Its all in how you plant the power....



Again, sorry for the motor man, Detonation is what causes rods to break, there is a major load on the motor while its detonating...

 

Could a Superchips Microtuner cause this to happen? Or is it strictly a chip thing?

 

Why do people feel better when thay have someone to blame????

We have rods that are just strong enough for a stock lightning. With each mod the risk of throwing a rod goes up. Cold weather adds more risk.

Some guys run 500 hp on stock rods and have survived to tell about it, others do not make it nearly this far.

I have wondered if alot of heat cycles (regular use) adds to the durability of the rods? I am not sure but it seems a lot of low milage guys have blown with low boost levels.

With all of that said I have a predetor now and 50degree air in the morning so I cant wait to get to the track.

Hopefully i will have a 12 second time slip and an intact block.

Will we ever learn???

 

I appreciate your guys' response. I FULLY AGREE THAT IT IS THE TUNE NOT THE 'CHIP. I didn't mean it as a slam against diablo.

As for suing someone...not in a million years. I understood what the consequences would be when I started modding my truck. I had fun while it lasted.

That being said, just got in from the dealer. I saw my block on the ground with a nice size hole in it. That felt good

They told me that Ford will only sell them a built block, not a bare one. Either way, I will try do it right this time.

As for the good tuners thing....I have talked to Sal @ PSP, the guys at JDM and JLP. They all have given me great advice. I will have my baby back in 2-3 weeks with proper pistons, rods etc. and the right mods that will get me into the 11 second club. I can hardly wait!

Yeah, you're right, I must be lying....because I would make that up. Just telling you what the guy told me, not saying he was right or wrong, never commented on any brand being better than the other, just offering up info.

As far as thinking I'm lying, I don't, nor would I feel the need to on a forum of all places.

What I was pointing out was, They don't like us using chips. He'll say anything to get you to not use them.

Just taking offense to blaming one certain brand. They all have access to the same programs, it depends on they choose for you to try or the type you ask for.

 

Again, no intent to slam a particular make, thats for sure. Either way I will be adding some Airmiles to my account to get her back on the road again.....

 

Just take your time and do it right man! I know it sucks but spend your money wisely and do whats best for you!
