Just speculating on my part....what pisses me off is I had the chance to have two different blocks sonic tested earlier this year but the question never came up. I had my new '03 block cryoed but didn't even think of checking wall thickness.

Somebody mentioned that there was more gap inbetween the cylinders on the '03 block. Thats a poor way to make a judement on this. They could very well have thicker thrust surfaces, but again....I don't know.

The funny part of all this, is that I don't know for sure either. I have a few folks telling me that the walls are thinner so I am trying to find out if it is true or not.

I didn't get suspicious of a cover up until this thread. It really makes me wonder, when I can't get a straight answer to a straight question.

Like I said....If the cylinder walls are thinner...someone tell us. At this point it is to late for me to read, "they are thinner, but it doesn't matter". That might have satisfied my thirst for knowledge if it were said up front. Now that the question is obviously being avoided, I know the avoidance is due to it being a potential problem.

The scary part of all this is...why are short blocks being sold as Race ready, without the builders of them knowing the answer to a basic engine building 101 question?

Just curious... Is the $3900 for the motor + tune including heads, blower, etc? Or is it just the block?

That's just the block with upgraded pistons/rods. You will need to reuse the stock heads.

I may look into this now that my curiosity is up. There is a shop close to me that has the BHJ equipment and I think he will come to my garage and check my block, I don't want to haul my stuff to him cause it is assembled. I also have access to an '00 block.

The Mahle Motorsports forged racing pistons should be very quiet. It was one of the items we expressed to them while in negotiations to purchase. We also made sure they were 1.5,1.5,3mm grooved and had anti detonation rings. Longest skirt available, they said, and utilizes the OE sideskirt coatings.

Pricing will be very competitive.
