Dodge blew it big time when trying to compete with a Lightning. The Lightning is in a league of it’s own, and for the foreseeable future will remain so until Dodge drops it’s price to within 3% - 5% of the price of a Lightning.
I don’t care what the Dodge horsepower and torque ratings are nor their mammoth cubic inch displacement because in the end, as far as STOCK and it’s current rating it is equal to or less then a Lightning performance curve.
I have read many sites on the internet and they all basically come back to identical ¼ mile times, it is the ¼ mile TIME that counts and nothing else, it is the vehicle that hits the finish line first that counts, not mph, not horsepower, not torque and not cubic inches.
The first one to the line wins, and at this time it looks like they both hit the line at the same time. Problem is, the Dodge will not see the line at the same time, as advertised, because many people will not be able to get peak performance out of Dodge’s manual transmission.
The only thing Dodge did was to, in my opinion, screw consumers. They have a truck equal to a Lightning that cost 33% more money. So if Dodge gets enough moron’s into their lots to buy the truck they “claim” can beat a Lighting then guess what happens?
Ford will raise their price on the Lightning’s. However I don’t really see it as a problem, I don’t think Dodge will sale many of their overpriced, performance lacking toys to anyone that is semi-educated about STOCK performance trucks…

Whoa! Tell us how you really feel. Why are you spending so much time putting down a truck that you say you would never buy? I think it's great that there is some competition out there. That's what makes it more exciting. Everyone makes their choice of vehicles for many reasons and i'm sure Dodge will sell some of their SRT-10's. Time will tell what the performance will be and what potential it has for mods, but I wouldn't get caught up in internet BS regarding times that people are posting on this truck. I remember the Lightning only testing out at about 14.3 by a couple magazines, but it's been shown that a stock Lightning can perform better than that. I would suspect the same will be true for the Dodge and even the Generation 3 whem it gets finalized.

Exactly ,and thats why your ignorant **** should wait and see how the truck REALLY does in the 1/4 ,not off of some BS magazine estimates.

Don't laugh I swear I would do this!

It's the biggest, baddest, boldest, fastest full-size pickup ever - the Viper-powered 2004 Dodge Ram SRT-10.
No truck comes close to this in terms of ultimate performance. How could they? No one else sports a class-obliterating 500 horsepower and 525 lb.-ft. of torque. And none of those "toy" trucks can even think about topping 150 mph or reaching 60 mph in approximately five seconds.

That there my friend is from Dodge themselves. Assuming Dodge is not “misleading” the public and just making up numbers it seems someone at Dodge has done some testing. Topping 150mph, reaching 60 mph in approximately 5 seconds.
They have some trucks already produced so you don’t think for a minute if the “ignorant” numbers floating around were wrong they wouldn’t be out correcting them? I know from a marketing standpoint I would be to help build the hype. As it stands right now there is nothing to hype about a truck that is equal to or less then a Lightning.
It might have a higher top speed but “if” it’s ¼ mile times are about equal to a Lightning it a loser in the educated publics eyes. Maybe you’re right and they don’t have a clue at Dodge about what there truck can do in a ¼ mile, sure seems like they know about everything else. If there ¼ mile times are about right with estimates then I give them credit for being smart enough to not put it on there site to seriously deflate the balloon their floating…
Is it a performance truck? Yes it is, but way over priced compared to “approx.” the same performance you can get out of a Lightning that is a much better looking performance truck...
I dont watch tv so i dont know, but has ford ever pushed lightning sales on television? Or even in newspapers and stuff like that? If indeed the stock Lightning is going to be faster than the SRT-10, ford could do one brutal ad campaign against it.

The internet does not convey any sense of tone or sarcasm. Therefore, assume that any post I make is made in a lighthearted fashion, without malicious intent, because that's just the type of guy I am, unless otherwise notified
LMAO.........ain't that the truth
Look me up on the 8th, and we'll have a brew and a good laugh

Personally, I'm excited about the SRT 10. In fact, I hope it is even more than they claim it is.
Why?
Because A) It finally gives our trucks some competition...without competition quantum leaps in advances will not happen. B) If the SRT 10 is everything and more that it claims to be, just imagine what Ford will do with the Gen III to make it even better.
I say to Dodge...BRING IT ON! Make it the best you can make it, because if they do, it's a win-win situation for everyone.
600HP 650Torque Gen III ? One can only hope!
We should welcome the SRT10 with open arms...then do everything to call ourselves to arms to really show them what we are made of!!!
Carry on....

when i saw the SRT-10 at the car shows i thought it looked pretty sweet. viper powered, decent wheels, nice hood, front looked nice. the front on that red one is really cartoon-like though. that truck is going to eat half of the population of all bugs on the highways! it seems like the rear sits pretty damn high in comparison to the car behind it. but nonetheless it has a viper engine and we have to respect it. i wouldn't be surprised if it punches out a 12 second slip in stock form. as for the price, yes it's expensive. this game is all about money though. the more you got, the faster you go. if i had tons of loot i'd be running 10s in 100 degree weather like a few of the other L owners are...but i can't.
there will be Dodge owners who will pay $50,000 for this truck. why? because they believe in Dodge with everything they got and will pay the extra cash to have a truck that has the potential to wipe the floor with any other truck in the world. whether it can do that or not is another story. i don't like making comments about performance until i see real numbers from the track with my own eyes. the first time i ever ran my L stock i was so nervous that i was going to clock a 14 second time slip and embarrass the L community. my first run ever was a 13.446 @ 102.73mph. it was a pleasant surprise! point being, i think we'll see something better than a 13.9 or 14 second timeslip from these trucks. 12.9 seems more reasonable but for the amount of extra money they are paying i don't think it's worth it personally. if it looked like the black version shown in this thread i think it'd sell alot more.
i still can't wait to see it on the street or the track. i want to see/hear/race/play with one!
if it beats me, i'll get more mods...if i beat it, i'll get more mods.
Dodge - Welcome to the game!
let's play.
