600hp plus guys here please…

What are guys like Don, Sal, Johnny, and the like running in terms of injectors and fuel system? I understand that the largest high impendence injector is 55#s, but what if you are making or expect to make well over 600hp?

Is there a set up that most everyone agrees on?

Wink

I have 50's right now, but jim wants to swap them out for 55's

I also am running the 255 fuel pumps, and a adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

So far i'm running 255 pumps in the tank *stock* lines *stock* rails *stock* regulator, with 50# rochester injectors.(We tried the 55's but did not see *any* difference between the 50's and 55's) so will just sell the 50's for $450.00 a set.... We have made close to 700 rwhp @ 19# of boost and i took the A/F's down to 9.6 with this setup. we will be stepping up the boost to 26# when all said and done and we'll see what we might have to do. my guess would just be, just a bigger dia. line feeding the rails should do just fine.....JL

Johnny,

Being the Kenne Bell distributor, how do you feel about the “Boost-A-Pump”?

I am trying to “over build” everything I can and other than 55# and twin 255 pumps, what else should I be looking for? I can’t say that cost is no object, but if something were clearly better I would rather have it going in.

Is there one brand of injector that is clearly better than the other and what about “matching” them?

I do reccomend the Boostapump we have 1 on our truck however i have it turned down to around 25%.. i have it there incase we have to turn it up when we hit 26# of boost (better safe than sorry)... Like i said i have used the 55# inj. and the 50# inj. and have seen NO difference. So i sell and install the 50# inj. on All our trucks and cobras...They have worked flawlessly.... If we are running 10's with a trap speed aproaching 130.@ 19# of boost( No NO2). then i feel they should be fine for anyone else trying to reach that point........ JL

Holly Molly Johnny 26# of boost, your a brave man. LOL

So far at the track I have only pushed mine to 17# of boost. I plan to go up to about 19-20#'s this fall, but I don't think I am going to try 26#

I agree that a bigger diameter feed line may be all the fuel line upgrade we need. Maybee a better fuel filter while you are replacing the line. You could prob use the stock feed line as the return line.

DON I thought you'd be running more boost then that on your built motor!
Dude I'm pushing 21-22lbs on my stock block with the KB.
Oh and no traction
PEASE!

I am building my engine with every intention of running 25+#s of boost and that is where these questions are coming from. Unless anyone can tell why I should not I am planning to O-ring the block and use copper head gaskets.

Johnny I sent you an e-mail…

Well, there's no need for O-ringing the block or using copper gaskets. The factory Ford head gaskets are the best gasket for these trucks and have no problems. I run them, and Randy Haywood runs them in his 1800 hp Outlaw car. I run 24 psi with spray on top, and he runs close to 40 psi.

O-rings are a neat idea, but they have a downside. Instead of blowing your headgasket, you instead either melt a piston or melt the head. I'd rather kill a $100 head gasket . And copper head gaskets are ok for race use, but usually have problems sealing the water system.

Just my .02 cents since you asked.

Frank, you need to toss those slapper bars in the trash and get some rancho style bars. That will help in a big way.

Johnny, why not just use the HI 55 Injectors for room to grow and a margin of safety?

Magnaflow has new fuel system components worth checking out. We were throwing down the idea of designing an entire fuel system from the rails to the tank if theres any interest.

O-ring is a nice safety factor but mod motors dont blow head gaskets, unless thats one of your overbuilds. Unless the truck is going to be Track only, I wouldnt run copper gaskets. Copper Gaskets always will leak. That in my opinion is a overkill, many guys have run 25lbs + lbs of boost(Im speaking about ModMotors in general) and still use stock Ford gaskets. These Mod Motors arent like the old pushrod motors, they seal very well under high boost situations.

Sal thanks for chiming in on the whole O-ring thing.

I looked at it as a precaution, but if it is going to be more trouble than its worth…

Care to add your thoughts on fuel and valve train?

BTW: Did you ever get my message about the extra crank?

I am sure with out the head work and cams in my truck, I would be around the same boost levels as you. Also we have come across a good combo for the bracket racing I am doing this summer. I am amaized at how consistant my truck has been this season, even when it was real hot in virginia. So far the smallest upper pulley I have run is a 3.2 inch pulley.

Once the FFW events are over, and the weather cools down a little I plan to see what kinda ET's I can get out of the truck. I do have a 3 and a 2.8 inch reichard racing pulley I haven't tried yet. I am sure once i go with a smaller upper my times will fall below that magic 10 second ET.
