Hi guys, I'm seriously considering buying a new '04WRX STI as a second vehicle.
do you guys think I'm crazy to want one of these? I'm bored with the new cobra allready, I mean the HP/TQ potential is amazing, but I'm waiting for the new stang platform or the new L before I buy another blue oval.

later,
chris
Yeah, you're crazy. I don't care how kewl it is, its still Jap. Guess you didn't watch the PBS special the other night on how they treated our POWs during WWII. Plus they still kill whales for dog food under the guise of "research" and are trying to get the Whaling Commission to rescind the moratorium on commercial whaling. Friends don't let friends buy rice.

What, are the Germans still killing Jews? I'll sell my VW immediately if they are. Heck, if it weren't for Jews Mercedes sales would be off 50% in this country. I'd let by-gones be by-gones, but the Jap bastads just won't let go of the idea of killing whales. Have you ever had a 50' whale surface close enough to your 25' boat that you could touch it? I have, and its an experience that I would hope future generations could also enjoy. Plus their damned long liners are decimating the oceans. Over 1000 cetaceans are killed as "by-catch" EVERY DAY by the long liners and purse seiners. The sub captain who sank the long liner off Hawaii should have got a medal, not a reprimand. But the WRX is "kewl" so if that doesn't bother you, go for it.

There are things in nature that OUR government destroys and kills everyday that I would like future generations to enjoy as well. But I can't just not buy anything.

I have seen a 50' whale up close and that is definitely one sad and pitiful aspect of Japanese culture. On the other hand, we have plenty of sad and pitiful aspects to our culture too.

If you're planning on buying a new car and that is the only one that fits your needs, I say get it. I don't think you can hurt our economy by buying a new car.

I drive a 01 Lightning, my wife drives a 02 WRX wagon. We like the wagon a lot. We take our Chow Dog with us everywhere and it is very practical. Of course in the winter the Lightning stays home and we drive the WRX. Our WRX is an automatic. It has a lot of turbo lag. I put a turbo back 3 inch exhaust on it and an free breathing air intake on it. The exhaust helped the lag a bit but its still there. I also installed the piggyback computer board on it and that put the car up to about 270HP but the board was not reliable and I was getting turbo spikes. I returned that. Anyway, I would say any Subaru is very reliable. We have had three different Subarus over the years. We have had our WRX for over two years now and it has not been to the garage one time. We bought it just after introduction in 01. I dont like it half as much as the lightning, but I like it a lot. Also the seats are too narrow for my big buII. Good luck!

well within the past week I have had the opportunity to race a new WRX STI on the street and to race a Mitsu EVO also on the street (this one at least 5 or 6 times).

the wrx got it's doors blown off.

the evo lost too, but seemed quicker than the sti.

then just two nights ago at Friday night street night there was another STI and another EVO running at the track. the evo was running 13.5s and the STI was running 14.4s I thought both of these cars were supposed to run high 12's stock?

no way I'd spend 33,000+ to run mid 14's

later,
chris

Chris, keep in mind they probably dont know how to launch em.

Then again, i wouldnt take my $34K ricer 4 banger awd and do a 5000K launch. Your best bet is to hit the local sti and evo boards and see what is really going on with those cars.

Ive raced a few out here and they are no match. I saw a SRT4 take out a STI the other night fwiw.
