WR Blue Pearl WRX STI to go with Sonic Blue L?
WR Blue Pearl WRX STI to go with Sonic Blue L?
Hi guys, I'm seriously considering buying a new '04WRX STI as a second vehicle.
turbo 300HP, all wheel drive, 6 speed, Brembo brakes, driver controlled front/rear differential bias, driver activated intercooler water sprayer, etc.
there is one at the dealership up the street, but it's sold. all of the dealerships in my area only get two a month and they say that there is a waiting list already.
one dealership told me I wouldn't likely get one until NEXT APRIL
do you guys think I'm crazy to want one of these? I'm bored with the new cobra allready, I mean the HP/TQ potential is amazing, but I'm waiting for the new stang platform or the new L before I buy another blue oval.
later,
chris

also all of the pics are in my online gallery listed in my sig.

Badass little car...not the prettiest...but a badass little car nonetheless. Hey if you can afford it go for it! It edged out the Evo in some recent tests so it's definately a good buy right now if you're looking at a sport compact...nothing comes close to it...kinda like our trucks

They are absolutely awesome little cars, but you had better be aware that you will more than likely prefer it over the Lightning in more ways than one. Both have their advantages, but those cars have a whole lot going for them.
Good luck trying to find one, for most are already spoken for. Not only can you find them by searching inventories through Subaru.com, but you may have luck reading the posts on sites like i-club.com. Many times both dealers and members will post when they find them on lots.

Car and driver said the EVO is still a better ride overall though and its cheaper so I would think twice. The STI is fast in a straight line, but the EVO's handling puts it just past the STI.
I wish I could get a EVO for a work car but I have to stick to american vehicles. The LS is still going to be a fun and smooth ride though!

I would take the girls in the picture, but that's about it. I can't stand the look of the car. Put that drive train in something else - anything, and then I would buy. The wing on the back has to go.
I have never been in an Evo, but the STI is pretty darn kewl for a Subaru. There is a person where I work that purchased a rally blue STI (er whatever color they're callin' it).
My experience (good & bad) as a one time passenger on a sunny day a few weeks ago:
Poo:
The "ride" was typical of subaru, interior rattled a bit, seemed a bit more harsh than necessary... Some of the interior pieces seemed a bit cheap; seats were not anything to write home about IMO, contrary to what every Subie-nut tells me. Also might have been the driver's fault, but something in the drivetrain seemed more noisy than I would like during powershifts-- just something about it didnt' seem right to me.
Good Nuggets:
The power was there. Our trucks put you back in the seat much more linearly than the STI--and I think much sooner. From my seat of the pants experience, you have to hit around 3000rpm before you really feel glued down. Even WITH the latency in power, I'd say it was about as fast as my stock 02 Lightning- although if I decided to race him, I'm sure he'd have a chance to spank me due to traction. On the racing note, I also hear the WRX's crappy "glass tranny" has been replaced for the STI with something that can actually handle a few nice clutchdumps without destroying something. Plus you gotta like the tiny brembos in the back :-) (bigger ones up front of course).
Would I buy one? Heck no... I hate subarus.
Would I rent one if I could? With FULL coverage-- fo' shizzle. <heh heh>
Just my .02

EDIT: Yea the wing definitely has to go... And the oversize hoodscoop should be removed and the intercooler moved to a front-mount. (personal opinion)

A friend of mine has the WRX (non-sti) wagon. Sweet car, he let me drive it, I was impressed for a 4banger. The sti must be a REAL blast to dirve, If I lived up north I would get one.
We always joke with my friend about this...
...You can get a discount on a Subaru though here
