Anyone ever make there own drive shaft loop?

It's just a thought. It doesn't seem like its that hard to make yourself... I have nothing wrong with spending $50 or so on one, I was just wondering if anyones made there own and how it works. My only question is, if its home made, will it get through tech? I think it will. a loop is a loop right? I have been looking into it because I will be running et streets next time at the track. thanks, Shane

Sorry for steeling this pic out of a gallery), but its a nice shot of a driveshaft loop.

The only time I have trouble in tech is when I have it all polished-up. Everybody wants to see it!

What do you mean set me back?

I got paid to make it and Merck bought the material
Now I wonder what ever happened to the template

thanks Gator. I was just wondering how much it would cost me if I made one myself. Yours looks really sharp.

I'm not opposed to people trying to make their own parts, hell, that's how I started, but I don't think you'll find it very easy to bend 1/4" thick steel .

I have a few stainless steel loops being made that will clear exhaust systems that are lower than stock. They are bolt in style. I ran into the problem with clearance on mine and installed a Metco style loop. I will post them for sale once I get them made.

Anybody ever try fabbing their own rear DS loop? I'm looking to run 2 just for added safety. I want to prevent both catapulting (front loop) as well as hitting/puncturing the fuel tank (rear loop)...

Ok I'm not starting a Loop War
"BUT
I got to agree with Sal's design on strenth. (I use his)
Bolted to the factory frame has got to be stronger.
In the event that sucker lets loose, I can see the possibility of the floor board being ripped out "or damaged" when attached there.
HOPEFULLY WE'LL NEVER NEED IT RIGHT

But man oh Man that's a major thick loop
and a great job you did Soap

AS for you Gator, isn't that stealing

Lets see so far work has supplied my first Ram Air Box, the Spring Loaded Check Valve on my Breather, the Stainless Steel Tubing now used on my JLP Ram Air Box, Bags of Ties, Tons of Washers, Bolts, Nuts, etc...

Good think I don't work in a hospital, I could see a set of home made wheelie bars now

Cool

I made the loop myself but I think I need to make it heavier. I looks like I might have to get my cousin involved for the heavy metal.

My cousin made these. We custom made this set writing down every measurement making a piece at a time until we had one side done. We made one for the otherside using the same measurements and they both fit perfect with 3/4" to 1/2" clearance.

Fast1Matt (Matt Park) from Houston (he was working on an elevator job here at the time) got the second set on which we tried something new. We cut a slot back to the bolt hole for the snubber. In 5 minutes you loosen the snubber nut and slide the snubber forward out of the bar for hauling a load. It works like a charm. That was a year ago.
