Bottom line is that Ford/SVT is in the business to make money. Perhaps if they make more profit from this generation of motor more of the GEN3 concept will make production. It all boils down to how many units can you amoritize the cost over.

As far as an L motor in a Nav, who gives a rip. Still going to cost $20K+ more, and not perform as well. There are a lot of performance enthusists out there that need a 4-door. We have another 30-50 years to wait before you need to worry about the collector value of a Gen2 L.

Talk about exclusivity. Would I slap a supercharger on mine? Yeah, once I'm buying it instead of leasing. Would I drop an L engine in? No, if we had an extra we would need it for our L eventually.

Did Ford ever say that "your motors" were made exclusively for Lightnings? Don't think so. You've got the motor in your vehicle, why the concern if it is put in something else. I don't get it.

I guess you need to thumb through page 1...

That engine is what makes the Lightning, a Lightning...

I bet if the 4V Romeo motor found in the Cobras wouldnt be so expensive to make, Ford would of shoe horned them into regular mustangs by now...

Part of the "SVT promise" is performance, substance, exclusivity, value.

Throwing around the motor as if it were anything else in the ford part's bin dilutes the meaning of that message. Unless you owned an L it's tough to understand.

I don’t see wut the big deal is. They have a concept Navigator that has a bit more get up and go. Finally something to compete with the competition. Instead of Caddies being the hot item, wut other than a 385hp SC Gator to ride around in. For all the people with families and need an SUV, they will love this. I feel as though so many SVT owners thing think their special just cuz they own a Lightning. Whippty ****ing do. Anyone can go out and buy a $30k truck for cash. Be happy you have one, be happy they are continually making improvements, and be happy that with Ford's income in the RED, the L is still alive.

It could have just as easily been a 350 hp n/a 4V or the same Harley-spec engine, but no, they have the bring it a bit above the L. SVT is supposed to be Ford's performance and HP benchmark.

SVT owners ARE special...

I dont know that many people who can afford $32K for a single cab stepside truck that gets 10 mpg.

Yeah, but you could own two Lightning's for what they will want for that thing.

One to drive on the street. Lightly moded, and will still smoke the navigator. The other to build for racing. It too will smoke the Navigator.

Huh, I guess I missed that part in the contract. You guys would have really been crying the blues if they supercharged the 32v Navigator engine. It's a CONCEPT vehicle. You guys need to relax and not take your vehicle so seriously. There are more important things in life.

Relax guys, take a few deep breaths...........

To put this all into context, in 1997 I ran out and bought me an SVT Ford Cobra, hottest thing Ford had. Boy did I think my s$@t didn't stink.......But then word came that a new, supercharged truck was coming that would rule the SVT world.

So in 1999 I ran out and bought a highly coveted, highly sought after second generation Lightning. Throughout the model year SVT told us all that the second generation would be built as a five year production run, with very low "build" numbers.

Imagine my superior feeling, owning a S/C'ed factory hot rod that blew the doors off most of the guys around here, including the Cobra crowd.

What a let-down when they decided to increase the horse power a couple of years later, add an overhead console, keypad entry, color coded mirrors, etc. etc.

So, I ran right out and bought me a 2002 Lightning and again the superior attitiude came back!

So here we are, 2003 and SVT gives us a S/C'ed Cobra armed with everything Lightning owners wished they had......namely a built bottom end to match the rest of the truck.

So, I guess the morale is, no matter what you got, SVT will always make you want something else, which ain't bad, as long as it's SVT................and if it don't say SVT, then it's just a Navigator with a big motor and nothing else...............
