Another Pop In The Jaw For Lightning Owners
The Mystic paint kicks ***.
I had a 96 Mystic Cobra fully equipped with Griggs GR-40 front end package and a Vortech.
Got hit head on with a drunk driver and car was totalled
Never did get to finish the rest of the Griggs.
I would personally wait for the 2005 Stang

**** I agree with somewhat, but the Lightning engine is not the same as the Cobra engine in how it is viewed by Ford.
I think SVT should be more of a "showcase" of technology, and as many of know, that just ain't happening with the current S/C 5.4. I have no problem with the L engine being used in the HD because I think Ford should have used a 32 valve supercharged 5.4 with variable valve timing on the Lightning in the first place. For the sticker price of a new Lightning, I think Ford should offer better value.
My two cents

Um, isn't that what SVT is? An exlcusive vehicle for the individual who wants an above average car to enjoy the thrill of driving? Things like limited production runs, options unavailable on normal models ...
Thats what most of us are annoyed about. Basically Ford is just taking SVT and selling out like pretty much everything else out there.
At least with the Harley truck it's another specialty limited production truck. But the Navigator????

Like it says in the statement, this is a concept, not a production vehicle. Even if they use this engine in the 2005's, I'm sure it will be a limited production, and besides, by that time, the new Lightning will be out with a bigger and better motor. The Lightning motor isn't anything all that unique other than a blower and a few mods. It's not like it's a specialty built block just for the Lightning. Heck, they could take the stock Navigator engine and put a blower on it and have more horsepower than a Lightning engine if they wanted to. Just keep in mind, some of you guys are getting worked up over a concept vehicle.
Chances are, this thing will never see the light of day, like with dozens of other FoMoCo concept products that haven't.........At any rate, if it DOES make it to production, it'll be based on the OLD Lightning engine at that point...............the New 2k5 Bolt will be out by then........so exclusivity will once again be ours (and even though I no longer own an L, I do say OURS because I WILL BE BACK for the 2K5 model
)
I can understand the exclusivity factor between L vs. Harley, and that's pretty much the only reason I went for the Mach I. Now I have exclusivity in every way.................Someone earlier mentioned the Mach I vs. previous Cobra.............Well, not only do I have all the appearance features (inside and outside), but even though it is a 4.6 32V, it's slightly revised internally from the 2k1 Cobra, and of course, I have a solid axle.............so it is UNIQUE for this model year. And in no way did Ford ever try to market this as an SVT, nor do I feel that it "took" from an SVT product.
Point is, IMHO, The L engine should have remained just that......an L engine! At least until a new variation of it was developed, and then THAT became the L engine. At that point, they could stick the SC 5.4 in a Focus for all I care. But, now that it is here with the Harley, and perhaps in the future with the Expy, so be it.................we can't cry about it. Let's just welcome them as little cousins..........or something.

My first post was a joke, folks..........Kick if your hung with a new rope.......kicking feet, dangling by your neck.........guess if you have to explain it..............
In all seriousness though, you bought a Lightning (or any SVT product) for the balance it provides, between handling, braking and power.
Dropping an engine into a Harley truck or an SUV does not make it an SVT product, nor will it perform like an SVT product.
If some nut wants to spend that much money for an SUV with a performance motor, let em. Overall sales will dictate the future of such products, if no one buys them, they will go the way of the Blackwood...............
Heck, Saleen will build you a snappy SUV any time you want to pay for it, and last time I looked, they didn't sell too many of them. Them Dodge Durango's with the performance packages were not selling well either.
Bottom line, enjoy your ride, and don't be upset by every new model that comes down the pike.
If you bought an SVT product thinking it was an investment, you really need to re-evaluate your thinking process. You buy cars like ours to enjoy, not as collector items. If you really wanted the car for it's resale value, or collectability, you would never mod it, and most here are modified in some way or another.
Me, I like SVT products. I like the bang for buck, turn-key performance that is offered, and by adding a few bolt-ons I can run with the best of them. The 03 Cobra is a perfect example of this.

I think throwing SVT motors into more cars, dilutes that "SVT promise."
And for those of you who don't knw this, Coletti hates having HIS engineers work being used by other teams in Ford.

I ****ing Love Her You Know
As for Ford, those bastards are either selling us out,
or they're saving the "good stuff" for the 05 Gen III Lightning.
Who's a better guinea Pig than us Lightning Moders, they can simply do what they have been, void our wrrnty and let us figure out the problems. As long as it has 450-500 HP and a S/C, we can work with it
But Who cares about that right now ?
As long as my little hot Moma keeps

Complete newbie to the world of SC'd engines: "I don't know what happened man.........I just installed this this thing that gives you like 10 more lbs. of boost (aka 10# pulley) last night, and I was racing this LS1, and out of nowhere, after I hit 120, BOOM.................Do you think it was that boost increaser??"

I have to wonder how many people " Spank It " to this animated gif
