Thumbs up 10's are Possible with a Stock Blower (Part 2)

We are trying to reach the 10's with the stock blower and a 4,583 pound 2001 Lightning. In my last post we had gone 11.23@117.76. Than I got the brilliant idea to add 4:10's and the truck had slowed down to an 11.34@117. Well, this morning we put the 3:73's back in and a 5/8 inch thick phenolic spacer between the supercharger and upper plenum. The temperature was hotter out today than when we made the 11.23 run. Today's temp was 68 degrees and 44% humidity and about an 8 MPH headwind. When we made the 11.23 run it was 38 degrees and 36% humidity and about a 12 MPH headwind. Now that all the data has been displayed let's get to the good news. Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords invited us to one of their closed track sessions at Raceway Park. We ran 11.10@118.86 and backed it up with an 11.14@118.92. On the first run we had a 1.51 60ft. time and the second run had a 1.54 60ft. time. The cool thing about the spacer is that the upper plenum never gets hot. The material that it's made out of doesn't allow the heat to transfer into the upper plenum. Here are some pics of the spacer below.

I have to say the owner of this truck Kevin White has been kind enough to give us his truck for the testing. I just want to give special thanks to a true Lightning enthusiast. Even though we are getting ready to put a bigger supercharger on his truck he has allowed us to use his truck as a test bed on our quest to run 10's on the stock blower. We are going to try to put the truck into the 10's this weekend with a more aggressive race tune since we ran 11.10 on a street tune. We will also be testing our new ram air kit to see if that will give us our magic 10.90 run. The ram air kit will be a race only ram air kit but it will be a *true* ram air kit that is a totally sealed unit. The phenolic spacers will be available for sale later next week.

Again, special thanks to Kevin for a being the Lighting enthusiast that he is. He's also a true friend to TeamJDM.

What did you have to do to the EGR tube?

I can see the heat advantage, but what advantage/disadvantage is it by making the plenum longer by adding a spacer? If I remember correctly, it helps top end but it has been a long time since I have used one. I know on the firebirds/camaros it actually hurt performance.

We took the EGR tube off and tweaked one of the bends. It takes about 3 minutes to do.

It actually straightens out the air before it enters the supercharger. I am definitely happy with it.

I just bought my '03 F150 HD trading in my '98 Grand Prix GTP. So I'm still trying to see whats availible. In the GTP community www.zzperformance.com ports and polishes the m90s and were able to pick up quite a bit of performance off of that.

Explains what they did (not exactly), but gives you an idea.
He was able to run a 2.6" pulley (stock is 3.8") without an intercooler. This would be like running a 10# lower without the intercooler
Anyhow might help you pick up that last .1 or .2

Good luck

Exclamation Jim u dah Man !

I think the best part of this is KEEPING THE stock blower and not haveing to spend extra money on a better blower ! I allways knew deep 11's and high 10's where possible with the Eaton i just havent had the money to do this sort of thing on my own !

yours for only...

You can see the pricing of some spacers here:
http://www.candsspecialties.com/stor...cessories.html
A google search confirms that those prices are ballbark for most vehicles.

Still, this is a Lightning and the space age materials add to the price. Not to mention the R&D. I'm guessing this piece will be yours for only

a bunch of people had made them out of aluminum last year for under $10. the one for my mustang(which was atleast twice as big) was only $49 and it came with longer bolts. I would think it would be under $50. I remember someone posting flow test data and picking up something like 40cfm from adding a 1/2 inch spacer, which like jim stated straightens out the big bend at the back of the blower. It would be nice to have a mod that works for under a 100 bucks. I never got around to making a spacer myself but I do have the block of aluminum.
