had to replace the spare tire carrier today.

the spare tire carrier on my 2000 lightning seized up today while i was putting my spare tire back on.. (another stupid flat!)

i thought i'd post the part number in case anyone else needed it..

2L3Z-1A131-AA

list price: $71.02
my price: $56.82
they had it in stock at the local ford dealer.. the parts guy said that it happens all the time.

super easy to replace... a solid 5 minutes of work.. that sucker is pretty heavy.. may have to remove it at the track next time.

2 bolts and it slides right out.

It just happened to mine last week as well, I went to pull it off, and of course one of the bolts were stripped. I was going to pull it off and try to fix it, going to have to cut off the bolt first ....

Would this be covered under warranty???

Thanks for the info clonetek!

Mine has seized up as well (after only 3 uses), so the spare is riding in the bed until I get to the stealer.......still under warranty though

Funny you should mention the weight of it..I pulled My spare tire last nite getting ready to install Caltracs and I noticed how bulky the reel looked...I thought it could be a good 10-15 pounds...did you weigh it?

i'm pretty sure that it would be covered under the warranty.. i don't think you can even repair the darn thing.. just replace the whole unit.

Good work Brooks.......it took you exactly 5 minutes to:

--leave the computer
--get the old carrier out of the garbage
--weigh it
--get camera
--set up and take pics of carrier
--download pics onto the computer
--upload pics onto F-150
--repost

Cool

HI!... In the 1ST year I had my truck I had it get "JAMMED" on me 8 times!!!!!! The dealer replaced it 8 times!!!!!! It always seemed to jam when I got my tires back up half way. Then it wouldn't go up or down. Always ended up cutting the cable. Always happened at the dragstrip too. The last one the dealer gave me I left it in the box. Been 3 years and still hav'nt installed it! LOL!

i happens alot on fords, it helps if you dont roll it all the way up when you dont have a tire on the carrie, it helps it from getting tangled or bound up
