Buying this week, but what?
This week I will be purchasing either a Chestnut KR or a white Lariat. I am not crazy about the color selection of the king ranch, but I will be inside the truck, not outside. My question is, Is the King Ranch interior that much better than the Lariat interior. Please give me pros and cons to both. One thing i do like is the rear buckets in the KR to keep my 2 kids seperated, they fight over the middle now in my supercab. Thanks again.
con's about the KR..hmmm....can't think of any....i love this truck....i also would have prefered it in white. i bought the charcol blue....the KR is the most beautiful truck ford makes....just my opinion....the interior is what sold me on the KR.
Hey Triton99,
I did some research at some time with a few other members and we figured out that the KR leather costs approx several hunderd dollars more than the Lariat leather. In my opinion, the KR interior is the best that Ford has to offer in their trucks. The KR leather is real cowhide and is much thicker and more durable and has a natual buttery feel. The care package that's supposed to come with the KRs includes special conditioning oil to protect the surfaces and keep the feel as natural as possible.
I would advise you to get the KR 'cause I've already had a Lariat package in a '00 Scab and I was a little skeptical at first but now I'm convinced it's much better. As far as color, I didn't like the chestnut the first time I saw it but it grew on me quick and now I love it. If I would have been given a choice, I'd probably chosen the Charcoal Blue but I've never seen one in person so I can't say for certain.
The resale may be slightly better on the KR too since it's a special edition but is not treated by Ford as a Limited edition like the HD and Lightning trucks.
There are a few other aspects of the KR that are unique like the lighted running boards, color keyed bedrails and running boards and bumper pads. Unique badges all around and special branding on the seats and console covers and high cutline trim color and no plastic door bump strips to clog up with dirt.
Need I say more..........eat your heart out man here comes your chestnut KR

I like my KR too
Except I gots me one of them green ones.
I looked at it like this. Invoice on a Lariat with the options I wanted was about $28k. Invoice on my KR was about $1500 more I think. That got me the 17" wheels, color matched accents, two-tone paint, CD changer, and that KR leather interior. It wasn't hard to justify.

Don't forget about the Homelink system. It can be programmed to operate a security system, garage door opener, and the like. It also has a message recorder so when you are driving down the interstate and the cure for the common cold suddenly comes to you, you can just record it instead of stopping to write it down. It's not of much use to me, but someone msut be using these things.

I went today to trade for the Chestnut KR, MSRP was 37,735.00. No doubt about it, much nicer than the Lariat. They would only give me 16,000 on trade for my 99 supercab xlt4x4, off road package, captains chairs, 28000 miles, ARE lid. Best they could do is my truck and $19,000, No way. KBB trade in value is 19,500. I am going to try another dealer because this is a very nice truck. I am going to offer 16,000 and my truck, Does this sound OK or out of hand?

I just had to jump in real quick.
I just traded my Supercrew Lariat for a King Ranch. WOW! What a great move for me. I have never been this pleased with a vehicle. Interior cant be beat, seats are Great, I love the color combos alot, and some great interior features. The truck is so smooth, quiet and turns alot of heads, including those Lariat owners. I was happy with my Lariat, and all Supercrews rule the road... but I think the KR is just a sleek upgrade.
It is the top of the line Supercrew as far as Im concerned. Take a look at my website link and go to the KR page for a list of all features and some decent pics of the truck. You wont be sorry if you go for the KR. Good luck in your decision process.

My advice, from doing this several times when trading in, is to keep each transaction seperate. Do your research, find out what the dealer paid for the truck you what, and from there you can negotiate a fair price for it. If and when you come to an agreement on the new truck, then you start in on the trade. If you can come to agreement, then there you go. I've seen these jokers play too many numbers games trying to confuse shoppers when trying to do both deals at the same time. I've found it to be much easier to keep straight when sitting at the dealership. I can't offer you specific advice on your deal but this approach has worked for me. Good luck.

Hey Triton99,
I would have to say that if the dealer is willing to give you what you can get for your truck from local wholesalers, then that's as good as you can expect on a trade. If you want to get more then you'll have to sell it outright. If the dealer gives you more than wholesale, then the new truck will include some hidden costs to offset the trade in value.
The dealer has to take a huge risk to buy a truck from anyone for more than they can dump it on the wholesale market. I'd say if they can swing the wholesale value on the trade and sell you the new KR for invoice price, which should be about 88% of MSRP, then do the deal.
IMO, any better deal than that will have to be X plan or A plan and sell your used ride outright yourself. Even with X plan or A plan, you are only talking several hunderd dollars better than wholesale on the trade and invoice price on the new one. Now if you can manage to dig into the holdback money, then you are talking a real deal since that's the only money they have left after you buy at invoice.
I bought my '01 KR Screw at net invoice which is exactly what the dealer pays Ford which is way below invoice but then again, it sat on the dealer's lot for almost 6 months after being built.
That's my $0.02 worth.
Good Luck

The only problem you might run into is that alot of dealers are afraid they won't be able to unload pre-owned vehicles easily since there are some amazing incentives being offered on new.
Invoice on my truck was somewhere around $3k less than MSRP. I would expect on the truck you were looking at it would be at least that.
Kinda goes along with what BroncoDave said, find out what your dealer paid for the truck and start from there.
Good luck!
