04 lariat or new 05 king ranch

trying to make up my mind and would like some unbiased advice. i own a 04 lariat screw with leather and all the options. i am thinking of trading for an 05 king ranch. current 04 has 22,000 miles on it. its in excellent shape and problem free. dealer has run a deal, my truck and $10,000.00. so for 10 grand i get a truck thats a little nicer (only diffrence is the type of leather) and zero miles on the odometer. all your input would be greatly appreciated.

You posted this on the King Ranch forum and you want unbiased what?

You get more than nice leather! You also get puddle lamps and folding mirrors, a paint color you can't get on other models, and big badges with the "Running W" on them.

I don't think buying a KR is really a good financial exercise. It is, however, fun to drive one!

You have an 04 and trading for an 05, I would say wait for the 06 suppose to have the 6.5 bed. Though I think you have already made up your mind.

If you are already trading in an '04 for an '05 then what are you going to do next year when your King Ranch has 22,000 miles on it and you want a new '06 Superduty?

Seriously, you can find a lot better uses for $10,000 than buying a new King Ranch. At least I hope that you can!

As another thought... the 2006 KR is going to have optional 20" wheels.

Your truck and 10K...sounds like you own your truck outright. While it's ONLY 10K for you wealthy guys It does mean cash out of pocket or PAYMENTS

Keep the Lariat and wait for the deals to get better....manufacturers are struggling.

Well, I have an '05, but to be honest, I can't say that that sounds like a great deal to me.

In Oct '04 I was shopping, and had narrowed it down to an '04 Lariat, and then found the '05 KR on another lot. Long story short, I got the '05 KR for $3400 more than the '04 Lariat, and the KR had the $1200 DVD option!

I'd hold out 'til the 06's come out. You may like them better, or you could just get a better deal on the '05s that they'll be trying to move.

Sounds like you're getting screwed on trade-in value, probably mainly due to the high mileage. The King Ranch doesn't add $10,000 of value over a fully loaded Lariat. I would wait until they make a few more improvements in 06. I may have to upgrade around that timeframe if they make enough changes.

that was the upgrade to a king ranch, but my truck is an 04 with 22000 miles. so some of the 10k was up grade and some depreciation. now looking at the lots there are not alot of kingranches there. i think the 6.5 foot bed might be worth waiting for.

well after a month of going back and forth i did it. traded my 04 lariat with 23000 miles for an 05 KR. got it for my truck and nine grand cash. put about 30 miles on it and left for vacation in another vehicle. so its sitting at home. the little bit i did drive it, i was very impressed. seats and leather are real nice. ride is great. surprised how loose my 04 got in 23K miles. i drove the lincoln LT and like this much better.

now for the mods. the one i traded had a ARE lid and borla exhaust. gotta do both of those.

if i was smart enough to post a picture i would. but its a standard aspen green KR.

went to 2 other dealers. one wanted my truck and 13K and the other mytruck and 12K, so i guess the 9K deal was pretty good.
