Question Floor mat hooks

Hey guys I bought the OE Floor Hooks for my STX for a measly 5 bucks yesterday at the local dealer. My question is--does anyone know how they secure to the floor? Looked at my Dad's '07 XLT yesterday but couldn't make heads or tails with his carpet floor. Just don't wanna go drilling into my floorboard and "zip" through the wrong wire cluster or anything....any suggestions?

Part # 1W6Z 76130A83 AA

After getting the part at lunch, it apparently latches to a carpeted area (that mine doesn't have) but I thought that I could shave off the bottom to make it flat, then put two small black screws through the floor to hold it in place. Anyone know if I would hit any wires, etc. If I drilled the screws into the factory hook location?

Well, I went for it, and things went easily and great. I'll put pics up in the next couple of days but it took two screws and a hole drilled through my floor mat, but I now have a stock-looking floor mat hook set-up

BTW ... Here is my current solution ...
Crafted from aluminum sheet stock and a BIG push-pin. It's anchored by the seat bolt. Works fine, however, the push-pins don't have that OEM look-and-feel.

I remember seeing that pic in your thread. For a true stock look, I measured the distance between the start of the vinyl floor and where my Dad's was located on his XLT. It ended up being around 4 3/4"-5". I pushed on the floor to make sure I wasn't going to drill into wire clusters and then drilled two screws into the floorboard (the stock setup won't work as there is nothing to secure the push clip into). One day in, and the floor mat twisted ever so slightly left but not like it was, with the FORD logo sideways once I arrived at my destination. Good luck!

Joe,

Did you ever get your floor hooks installed? I'm going to order a passenger hook this weekend and install Monday.

Order a pair earlier this week. Dealership has yet to notify me that they're in.

Please standby .....

FINALLY got around to installing the mat retainers. Decided to retain ( pun intended ) my original fabricated brackets, remove the push-pin, and supplant it with the OEM mat retainer hooks that are attached with 3M double-sided body trim tape.

*Oh ya ... I removed the WeatherTech moniker plaque and replaced it with a personal creation fab'ed from aluminum with a decal applied.

I Like that, man. Looks sharp. I tried to remove my floor mats the other day to vacuum my floorboard and the passenger side mat was hooked so well I couldn't get it loose so I just vacuumed underneath and went on about my day....

I've got the cheap rubber mats from Wal-Mart with holes drilled for the hooks.

DSGSTX81, did you attempt to fix the retention clips directly to the floor? Just by looking at them, it is not obvious to me how they stay in place. If they anchor into the floorboard, I'm sure the feature for doing so is present whether or not you have a rubber floor or carpet. I'm going to be doing this to my truck as well. Thanks for the post.

Tractor,

Hey I ended up shaving the bottom clips off so they sit flat on the vinyl floor. Then I took two screws (one top and one bottom on each hook), drilled them into the floorboard and then used the cut out on the drivers mat to hold it in place, with the passenger side mat kinda stuck in place through sheer force of will lol

Guess I could've cut a retention hole in the passenger side mat and put a chrome ring around it so it didn't tear, but I don't always have a copilot so it's not a huge issue.

Also, while working for a dealership a few years back I bought a set of OEM mats for $40.00, they've worked great ever since
