Back window leaks

actually im not sure what really leaks. i know there is a waterfall that comes in every time it rains, i think ive been inhaling mold or mildew.

anyway, my truck has that trim piece around the back window from the factory. have not been able to take it off due to time constraints and what not.

what i am trying to figure out is, what the hell is leaking? it is not the third brake light, the third brake light seals to that trim piece just fine.

I had a similar issue just weeks ago. It was pretty bad, everything was mildewing in the truck. What I did was caulk it with a clear caulk. I put some in the foam bead that seals the trim to the truck, around the 3rd light, everywhere that there was a gap for about 3/4 of the way down. I didn/t go all the way down to give a little breathability to the back seal and allow any water that does get in there to escape. Worked like a charm. About a $4.00 fix-little redneck though. If you do it wait for the caulk to fully cure and scrape down the glass with a razor blade and some #0000 steel wool to get the reminants. Just be super careful around the paint bring paper towels with you. If you smear on the paint wipe towards the bead with a little peice of paper towel and discard imediately.

if you have the sliding window in the middle of the rear glass, check the seals around it.

I will try to post some pictures. It looks like hell because it rained right after I did it and the caulk ran and I had to redo it...

There is a sticky seal under your trim that was has failed. I have the same problem. The other trouble spot is in the third brake light. Pull over the cover and silicone the holes inside.

I went the long way around. I dissasembled the back window. (sliding window and all.) I didn't pull the whole glass out but I did take all the trim off. A pain in the @$$. got a good exacto knife and trimed (or cut) out the old black sylicone. A buddy of mine gave me some black sealant that they use at his shop to repair window or replace them. "Recaulked" it and put it back together. Good as new now.
