2006 FX4 Chrome Shifter glare

My wife drives a 2006 SCREW with the FX4 package, the console shifter has a chrome top to it and the surround to it is chrome as well.

She has complained that the glare can be pretty crazy off that thing. It looks nice, but the glare blinds her and it shows finger prints and stuff.

Did they put other, non-chrome, pieces in other models or packages that maybe I can switch with, I can't imagine those trim parts are terribly expensive, just not sure if there were other options. Anyone know?

i don't know if earlier models would work but i know my friends 00 has all black on his shifter. if not being OEM doesnt bother you then im sure you can find something that will work by searching online.

I'm OK non-OEM, but the switch would probably be easier if it was OEM.

I have an email into a Ford parts department as well, not sure if the 00 is the same shifter as an 06, I'd have to see it I guess... I don't have a good shot handy that shows the entire shifter, in this shot you can see the top of it (and the glare): http://www.pauley.org/images/ford/Ford12.jpg

The 00' didn't have a console and thus, no console shifter.

To my knowledge, all of them have a chrome cap on the top. Short of putting something over it, I'm not sure what to tell you... best of luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Dont let her drive it any more! Get an old Daewoo beater or something, she'll stop complaning .

Thanks everyone for the good and not so good responses :-)

I did get a response from Ford Parts, chrome was the only way it came. So that question is answered....

Aftermarket or modification to the existing setup are really the only options. Haven't found too many aftermarket ***** for the automatic setup....

mine i got a lot of glare off mine every once in a while when the sun would hit it just right... Tinting the windows will cut down on like 90% of the glare.. because you will only get the glare when the sun comes in the windshield and hits it just right..
