I have a Bissell "Little Green Clean Machine" at home, and it does an adequate job...

On occasion though, I'll rent a "Rug doctor" from the local hardware store. It's usually when I have to do the house carpets. At the same time I pay a couple of bucks extra and get the upholstery nozzle. You can get the machine for either a 24 hour period (which is plenty of time to do both the house, and cars) or some places have a weekend price. The rug doctor has much better pressure, and suction than my Bissell.

I save money and get the extractor soap at Walmart ($10 for a huge jug). It's a concentrated product and will last you quite a long time. For stubborn spots I'll pre-treat with a few products... One that I like a lot is "Shout" (Yup, the laundry pre-treater)...

ok, so any regular home carpet shampoo formula will be ok to use? I already have a bissel cleaner that does a damn good job in the house i'll be using that in my truck.

Yes, I've found that any concentrated cleaner marked for use on carpets/upholstery (like the Walmart jug) does a great job.

One other trick I use... Prior to filling the tank for the first cleaning, I'll knock my water heater temp up a few notches. This really makes for a nice hot water cleaning. Don't forget to set it back down when you're finished!

well this way is a little more labor intensive and you need a pressure washer. but what i do is take out the seats which takes about 20 mins and then pull the carpet out. i then hang it on my fence and spray it with some engine degreaser. i let it sit for about 1 min and then pressure wash it with the turbo nozzle on my pressure washer. i did this with my 01 screw and i also own a car lot and do this with a lot of cars with dirty carpets. this is the best way to clean a carpet completely. i did this with a car that had been on fire and had been hosed out. ashes and smoke everywhere. came out perfect. ive also gotten carpets out of cars at the salvage yard and made them look new. hope this helps a little more work but it will be totally clean. lets the dirt run off other than settle in the carpet. oh yeah takes about an afternoon to dry.

hmm intresting, little bit much for me though, If I was to tear the capert out I would put a brand new carpet in. The feel of the carpet under the seats and the rear seat folded down, lifting the flap and feeling it,very nice, then feel the regular carpet,,,, could use a new one I suppose.
