Sagging driver seat problem?

Has anyone else had the problem of the springs wearing out at the seat edge near the driver door? I bought the truck used at about 80k miles, and noticed a slight amount of sag. It's getting worse every month, and now I can feel the unevenness of the seat when I drive.

The edge gets a lot of compression when the driver slides out, and the springs take a beating. Maybe the previous driver was over-weight? I just wanted to see if other people have had this problem and how they fixed it.

I just priced a new foam insert for my seat, and they run about $100. That seems pricey for a piece of foam. Is this about right, or does anyone know where to get them cheaper?

I bought an 01 with 78,000 miles on it and mine has same problem. Was going to take it to a shop and have re-done. Mine is leather and afraid the leather will start cracking where it sags if not taken care of. Plus there is no support.

Actually as stupid as it sounds, those elastic snug fit seat covers protect the leather almost completely from the cracking. It really keeps them nice.

The same thing keeps happened to my truck. I had it fixed at an upholstery shop 2 times and the foam keeps sinking down on the left side of the seat. I am beginning to think it is a design flaw in the OEM seats. The only way to fix it is to put in a new cushion and don't slid in and out on that side of the seat but lift yourself in and out carefully.

Another option I am considering is aftermarket seats, I like these what do you guys think?

I've just repaired the bench on my 96 F150. I bought it used, and when I sat in the drivers side I sank right down, but the passengerside and the center were fine. I took a peep underneath and sow some loose wires so I pulled the seat out of the truck.

The problem was not with the foam. The foam is supported underneath by wires attached to a metal rod which is intern supported by springs. It is a lot like a couch actually. On my seat the wires running accross to suppor the foam were broken on the drivers side, and the metal rod was broken as well. I took a piece of 1/8" rod cut it to length and ran it through the springs, and used bailing wire to attach it to the two pieces of broken rod. I then put a pece of bristle board on the foam (To keep the wires from cutting into the foam. Not really nessissary). I then used the bailing wire to make up new support wires to replace all the broken ones. Actually I ran a couple of extra ones just in case.

It worked great. I now sit much higher and the seat is way m ore comfortalbe. It has some spring to it like its supposed to.
