How do I word it to my dealer that their leather is a piece of sh*t and I want them to fix it? I have a '99 F150 SC Lariat 4x4 with the tan leather 40/60. The truck has 30K on it. The seats look bad. I've cleaned and conditioned then about every 6 weeks. The steering wheel was also replaced at about 5 months. I need a new one again, same problem. Ugly wearing at the stitches. I talked to a service rep today and she said it was probably "cosmetic". I paid too much $$ for it not to be covered. ANy help would be so much appreciated.

 

I would be as honest and up front as possible. If you can show them any cracking or stitching coming apart..that will help your case. Dealerships will usually try to turn you away the first time..but a persistent person has a better chance. Try not to get into an argument..but make a point! Are there any other FORD dealerships nearby?

If all else fails...hey...find a new one on the lot, with tan leather seats and take a long test drive!

I am having the same problem with my 99 Lariat. It is almost like the leather is chipping off. I think they used a really low grade of leather. I have found that a good leather cleaner works on about 80% of the dirt. But there are actual pieces of leather coming off on the seats and not just where the seams are located. Anyone else having this problem? Maybe Ford would react better if we responded as a group. Maybe a class action...?

There are a bunch of Ford Dealers in the Richmond area. I called one but not the one that has done other work for me. Like replacing the rear window. That one was a real shocker one morning! But that's off the point. I have a friend with a '97 Dodge with leather....his is still nice...I can't be stood up by him!

 

I think the key word here is 'wear'. It's those polyesters, rayons and stiff cottons that are wearing out these seats. My seats still look like new, I have always trucked around buck naked from the waist down.

Bottom line, my seats look great and I've only been arrested twice.

I sleep naked and drive naked, let Da BuNs Buff up that leather to a fine Gloss.

I too have been pulled over several times for this, but when Da officer's see that my "Arm's" are BiGGeR than their's, they are usually too embarrassed to issue a ticket!. We usually just exchange Ammo recipes.

You may have to find a truck or car with more miles that has nicer leather. Hell I found 5 in their lot. Tell them that this is not normal. As I posted I didn't even like the replacement leather so they paid for real leather. Maybe I just have a nice service department, and thank God for that.
Bottom line is just don't settle. Be a gentle giant, and hang out a lot. Worked for me.
