okay, boyz....(& gurls).. my snap apart key ring device is a 1/4 drive swivel socket adaptor from snap-on, with the pin & centre piece removed.
You now have two little "ends" with a hole for the rings, and they fit together using the female & male parts of the 1/4 drive. I've had this thing for ten years, and the keys wiegh lots, it dangles from my wheel, ( I KNOW )and never has fallen apart yet. It was expensive, but was a gift for spending LOTS from the snap-on dealer. the key here, (no pun intended) is use a good quality swivel, if ya wanna make one.

My key chain hits too. I am in the Navy, so like all sailors, I have a huge brass clip that I hang my keys from. It makes a pretty good gong as I go over tracks and big bumps. It is a real no brainer that I need to seperate my keys, but I would have never thought that as many people were as lazy as me (no offense).

Take care, and keep on Truck'n

My solution was a valet key ring, they sell them at any hardware store. it has 2 rings,
one on each end, and one side detaches,so you
can put the ford key on one side and everything else on the other.

Of course, you COULD always do the following:

Press hard - and GO LEFT!

Cool

I opted for the valet key-ring. Now all my trailer keys are on one ring and the truck key's on the other. Worked for me.
I tried the "press hard - go left" trick but eventually had to stop going left and then the problem was back...

Get a small magnet like to hang stuff off the refrigrator door. Paint it black or gray like your dash. Glue it next to where the keys hit the dash. When you get in and start up just place the loose keys on the magnet to stay put.

My keys are brass and won't stick to the magnet
Good idea for someone with steel or nickel keys, though

I had the same problem. A week after I bought my truck, I put a strip of gray adhesive foam on the spot where the keys hit and now... complete silence.

I got an extra key made for my 97 and put it on a key ring by itself and use it in the ignition.
