Leather Warranty

I have the cracks and discoloring of the seats at the side bolsters. It's on the bottom where your thighs are. Is this what others have had fixed under warranty? The tan color is completely gone in this area and it's starting to crack too! If it does get replaced under warranty do the new covers last? Have they improved them? Thanks!

Leather Cracks in Lariat S'Crew

On the driver's seat in my 2001 Supercrew Lariat, I have noticed cracks in my leather under my left leg or the outside edge if you will. I have 23,900 miles on the truck is all.

Is this something I should talk to the dealer about replacing (ie. my seat)? Is it a warranty thing? Still under the original 36/36, but have it extended to 72/72 to be sure.

I had both seat bottoms replaced under warranty at 33K miles. The dealer said they would probably need to be replaced again in the future. I mentioned to him that the Ford truck leather seemed inferior to leather we have had in GM, Mopar and German products, he agreed.

I had a '98 and the leather was terrible. When I traded it in about a month ago it only had 50K miles on it. All the leather areas had a lot of wrinkles in it and the driver sitting area had many cracks and was wearing very thin in a few places. On the top part of the driver seat where the lariat embroidery was it ripped and there was a 5" long hole. I put conditioner on it once a month and it really shouldnt have been in the condition it was in my opinion. And since it was out of warranty I inquired about the cost to replace the driver side leather and I could have bought a nice leather couch for what it would have cost for replacement. Needless to say I didnt get leather in my new one...

Looks like I will be asking my dealer to do a replacement for me too soon then. Better now then later. I only have 23900 miles on the truck. Thanks for the feedback from everyone.

I agree that Leather is not the way to go and you can bet, if I have the choice on my next one it will not have the leather.

Thanks again.....

I have a 2001 Supercrew with leather captains and they look terrible, and I have worked hard to keep them clean because of bad leather in my 97 & 99 supercabs.Thought at first that the seats in the 01 Supercrew were going to be better.Never went to dealer. Now have 43,000 miles on the truck,Guess I am out of luck unless I want to pay the price.

I have the same issues. My driver side seat bolster is wearing very badly on the left side. It looks as if I have only sat on the bolster, compared to the rest of the seat. I clean and condition the seats with lexol, but this is still a problem on my truck.

I am currently at 31K, is this something others have had replaced under warrantly on a consistent basis, or is my dealer going to give me grief over it?

I would be interested in a poll of how many people have had the bolster re-upholstered, and how many have had the dealers to refuse to repair it.

I mentioned it to my dealer the last time I talked to him. He did not balk at my asking to have them replaced.

I will let you know if/when it happens.

Good news. The Dealer has ordered a new cover for my leather seat. Bad News is they are National Back Ordered so it may take a week or two. But they are going to cover it under the 36/36 bumper to bumper plan.

If anyone still has theirs under warranty, I would check with your dealer about getting it/them recovered. They should not crack.

Hope this helps.......later......Ken

Yep, nice that you're being taken care of. On the new seats, try not "sliding" into and out of the driver's seat. If it's the drivers seat/left bolster, that could be contributing to the rapid deterioration (note that I did not say "solely responsible for"). Actually, I thought I had seen a similar warning on this site before.....maybe I dreamed it. In any case, first few times my wife rode in my '02 Lariat FX4, she though it was neat to "slide down" the passenger seat right-side bolster and down to the ground. We had a chat. Though she still thinks it's neat, she refrains from doing so (especially when I remember to go 'round and help her down). How she puts up with me sometimes, I'll never know.....must be an
