I have a 2011 Screw XLT and would like to add puddle lights to the bottom of the mirrors. It looks like I have plugs where they go, is the wiring in there? Is it plug and play or do I need to add a relay and wire it to the interior lights.
I hate the factory headlights, I don't think they are very bright. I was going to replace the bulbs with Silverstars or whatever is best, then I got looking at HID kits. I am afraid I'd get stuck in the middle of nowhere because of some chinese made crap failed. Is there something of quality out there?
I have the factory chrome oval tube type steps that I'd like to add lights to, that come on when I open the doors. Has anyone done this already?
Advice is great, pictures help out more!
Don't be afraid of being direct, I am too old to worry about it...

Don't waste your money on cheap HIDs. They'll just crap out on you. Plus any PNP HIDs will just cause unwanted glare blinding other people on the road. Look into projector retrofits using Morimoto stuff. All great high quality with a great customer service to back their product.
How much money are you looking to spend for your headlights. You could also do the '13-'14 HID update. That would involve the HID headlights, and a harness adapter that is needed for the update. I have an '11 Lariat. That's what I did. They are a major improvement over the Halogen headlights. In '13-'14, HID headlights were available on the F150. Some of the upper models had them as standard, or they were available as an option on some others models. I did mine back in late 2013. I kept looking on line (Ebay, Amazon, etc.) till I found a set for a really good price (at the time). I paid $950.00 for a "Complete" set of HID headlights. That includes the housings, bulbs, and ballasts. Then I bought the harness adapter for $125.00. In all It cost me $1,075.00. So the question is, How much are you looking to spend? You can research any of this information here on the forums in the lighting section. And there are hundreds of posts on this subject.
With the factory Halogens
With the HID update
HID low beam. Oddly, I think the Halogen Low beams are better.
WOW! That does look brighter!! I saw Rigid had complete projectors for just under $500 for the pair. I guess I need to do some research to see what all is out there. Maybe pick up another pair like what I have and mod them, or look for 13-14 pair...
I guess I would need to get another pair of stock lights to mod, then I would need the projectors, ballasts, some wiring, and?? I am not afraid to try it, but need a parts list and some instructions. I went to Morimotos site and was overwhelmed by all the different products they have.
Another question, I assume there are upgrades to the fog lights, the factories are not that bright to me. I had installed a harley valance on my 2000, and think they were brighter than the stock ones on my '11. I wouldnt mind switching them to driving lights if there is a good way to do that.
I did get hold of Rigid about the puddle lights on the mirrors. They said they will fit ir you pop off your plugs but need to run wiring to your dome lights. Sounds simple enough, but i might install a relay just so I pull minimum current of thae dome light circuit. They never did answer my question about the amperage their LEDS pull. I know it isn't much, and maybe I am creating extra work for myself, but I'd feel better running a relay.

Thank you for the info! How do you make sure the projector housing is centered/aligned in the stock light housing? Is there a jig for drilling or something? I saw some pictures taken while they were modifying the housings but I dont remember seeing how they did it. I did see a post here that guys who modded theirs painted the inside the color of their truck, mine is ingot silver and I might want to keep some of the chrome. I have somethinking to do before I get started. I also have about three mods I need to do first! I have the backup camera parts sitting on my desk, waiting on my amp and mini sub lol! So I will be reading up on this, and looking for a good donor set to mod!
If you are using the Mini projectors them they have a shaft that goes thru the H13 hole so that will keep it centered. If you are doing a projector that requires cutting them what I do is take a hole saw and drill the pilot bit into a dowel ( I can't remember the size at the moment) that dowel goes into the H13 hole and the hole saw cuts the reflector right in the middle so that the projector is in the middle. For example 3" is the size for the fx-r and 2.5-2.75" for my rx350s.
