2014 FX4 HID Question
2014 FX4 HID Question
Okay, so I've had my 2014 FX4 screw for a couple of weeks now and have had several opportunities to drive it on dark country roads. The truck has the HID lights which I will say are awesome compared to the halogens my Ranger had, but I do have a question; what I have noticed is that I get what appears to be light flicker on the ground directly in front of the truck.
The cutoff line is sharp and stable, what happens is when the truck bounces around a little on the road it almost looks like the fogs are shaking in the bumper (the light hitting the ground directly in front of the truck "shakes") except I don't have my fogs on - it's all the HID output.
Since this is my first vehicle with HIDs I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this (ie. is this normal) Since the HIDs are a projector I can't figure out how only part of the light beam can be affected - I would think if the top of the beam has an issue, the bottom would too... Thanks for the feedback!

That's a weird one. Usually we get the problem with the cut-off shield bouncing. Nothing should move on the bottom. Should be totally secured.
Unless the HIDs are not totally seated and bouncing around in the projector..
Can you catch it on video?

Im not going against what anybody is saying, especially if its a known problem....BUT, is it possible that its the bulb itself bouncing inside the projector.Being that its a bixenon, I believe that the bulb pivots when switching between low and high beam. If thats the case, whatever pivots the bulb may be worn/loose/broke? Rather than replacing the whole assembly, it could just be the bulb bouncing? Or it could be what everyone else is saying... Just a question/suggestion.

I've tried catching it on video, but not with any success worth posting.
As an aside, have you had any issues with "light scattering"? I have found that when passing vehicles on the highway I have had several drivers will put up their left hand to block the reflection from their exterior mirror - the "side light" from my lights will light up the entire interior of their car as I'm passing them.

Even if it's not, you really should check your aim. The low cutoff should be 2" lower than the center of the projector lens at 24'. In most cases, being properly aimed will put your cutoff just below the side mirrors on most midsize sedans.
Question...is your truck leveled?

I got thinking about the cutoff shield being the issue. It seems to be mostly on the left (drivers) side.
