Raptor's Retrofit is upgrading

My bulbs were giving me problems and died, so this plan is happening quicker than I anticipated. This is going to be step 1 of 2, but my plans are to re-retrofit with all new components by December. New housings, new harness, RX350 projectors, bulbs and ballasts. But to keep me on the road, I ordered two of the parts (bulbs and ballasts) already.

Special thanks to Matt over at The Retrofit Source, this is my second personal retrofit. Some of you may know I have about 1,000 hours on my current 4-year old setup. Seeing as a I drive 70% at night, this is a MUST-HAVE mod. They should be here Friday or Saturday so I'll update this with pictures when they get here.

The RX350's seem to be the go to projector these days. Is it really that much better than the FXR's? For $50 more is it just a size thing? (no pun intended)

There is a projector comparison thread over on HIDPlanet and it does seem a bit wider, with less foreground lighting (pet peeve of mine). Supposedly they are a step higher in terms of performance vs the FX-Rs. Only time will tell for me.

Wider low beam, slightly better high beam, less foreground so better distance vision, smaller. Plus OEM quality is a can't beat.
Only down fault is the tuning process which takes some time.

PS. You can upgrade to an EU slope cut-off which is just sexy IMHO.

Thankee!!! Since I am going to have to tear my retro apart again at some point and install my new lens and plan on retuning them I'll gladly do a How-To.

I've got OEM Range Rover (Land Rover) projectors considering using on my new truck.

Any idea what year the RX are cloned from? All the new ones have switched to single HID with external halogen bright lights

They are not 'cloned'.

These are actual OEM projectors, removed from vehicles and refurb'd.

And to answer yer Q - 2010.

"When the Lexus RX350 Bi-xenons came out in 2010, they quickly climbed the totem poll to be regarded as one of the best performing bi-xenon projectors on the market. We happen to agree!" - TRS

Patrick, I believe these are OEM take-offs. I'm not sure which year they come off of.

Edit: MGD beat me to it.

Also, bulbs and ballasts should be here tomorrow. Super fast shipping from TRS! They should be here by 11am EST but obviously not going to be able to see them until nighttime. I'll have my D-SLR ready for before and afters.

The output is nothing short of amazing. Wider beam, brighter, and also bluer. Weird considering these are 4800K and my last bulbs were 5000K. The FX-Rs are just about done, though. hotspot has been off since I got them and they're starting to get dirty and outdated. RX350 retro to come!
