Lights Behind Grill

Been thinking of installing a light bar behind the grill on my 2001 Supercrew. Has anyone done it? Will it actually protrude the light through the stock grill or will I be wasting my money?

There are a couple thread on here about how to do it. Do you mean a light bar of LEDs, or a bar with lights on it? Either way, a honeycomb grill will allow a lot of light through, others not so much

Maybe a couple of these or something similar. Not sure how much room is behind the grill.

Can they be mounted to the plastic structure behind the grill or will I have to fab a bracket for them?

Please just look at the threads under the Google link, there are like 10 detailed threads about how you exactly go about doing this. Do some homework. You need a piece of angle iron for a bracket

~or~ if you can't see the image above (I gots problems with images methinks) it's in this post with the ginormous pic:

( Yep - an actual Member's truck - no photochopping required. Such subtlety and attention to detail! )

Yeah, I've seen that! Not sure why AK decided to do that, cause those honeycombs barely affect the light output at all. Phattacorider has no issues with his, and neither do others.

Function over form? at least he has it cut out decently well, the only reason the holes are off is because his hood is still up a bit.

1) My hood is popped in that pic
2) The lightforce 240s are too thick to fit all the way behind the grill, they're only 1/4" off the radiator as it sits there.
3)$150 for a set of 100w 9" Lights is worth cutting up a $50 grill

Here's how it sits most of the time.

If anyone wants to donate a 50" LED bar for my roof, I'll gladly get rid of my 240s and put a saleen grill in their place :P

See? He had the hood up like I thought and that now looks fine! I think I do recall you saying that the lights were too fat to fit behind there now that you say it, AK. Those things are massive (and so is the picture!)!

Like for instance this one:

And in my signature line, you'll find another link to how to do it with older trucks.

All that being said. Don't cut your grill to fit lights! Get some 6" slimlites and retro a H3 HID kit in it.... I would not do it again.

I'm part of the "spoon fed" generation, but that's a whole new level!
