Now for all of us PRE-2013 truck owners, I have put together a new H13 Harness that will plug and play with the new OEM HID headlights. All thanks to my Dad, which has access to Alldata which found out all the info for this new harness.

The new harness is available through my website and in the near future I will be purchasing a set of the 2013 headlights for upgrade modifications.

I know somewhere here on the forums there is some kind of price for the housings, but I can't find it at the moment. Went to the Ford parts site for a lookee. They give pricing for the HID bulb (D3S-$355.08), but no price on the ballast or headlight housing. Just says "CALL". And of course the various related parts like bulb retainer, ballast to bulb wire, etc. is there. If I'm considering doing this I need to have some idea of what I'm in for money wise. So we'll see. What are your opinions? Is it really that much better? I know the PIAA RS600 HID lamps I have on the truck are just crazy bright, and they throw for ever with a decent spill. It's like why even bother having the headlights on. But, they are for off road, and I'm just wondering if these DOT legal HIDs' are going to have decent throw and spill, and be worth the cash for me. Just thinking out loud .

 

In all actual costs it would be cheaper to do a retrofit kit with fx-r or LS460....

 

Exactly. A DIY retrofit would yield better performance and be cheaper. The only pro of this route is that it is OEM and legal (not like you are going to get harassed anyway) and it does not require any modification

 

I had a brief conversation with TRS on Facebook, and they stated that the new D3S system the Mustangs and F150s use isn't actually the best output compared to other systems.

HMMM I wonder what would fit in here to blow the OEM projectors out of the water????

Well did a little more research while Turf's paint drys for his retro.

Here's what Ive all found out: the OEM Ford projector is some version of a Hella, and the EVOX-R is the only projector that will bolt directly up. The High beam solenoid input plug matches the EVO's input as well.

Now to the comparison of light output: the EVOX-R (on the right) as you can see distributes the light better and with a razor sharp cutoff. The OEM Ford on the other hand is scattered all over, very intense hotspot with no uniform foreground coverage. The high beams are also a tell tale sign that this projector was pretty developed, im dissappointed Ford! A little extra research could have yielded a much better performing projector.

I am still working on utilizing the OEM D3S ballast to work with the D2S Evox-r for those who would potientially upgrade. I have some wheels in motion for accomplishing this, but is a trade secret for now until I can confirm its reliability. This way the OEM ballast will still cover the giant hole it mounts into and keeping all the components self contained inside and mounted to the headlight housing.

What does this even mean? The new projectors are D3S but wassy obviously upgraded to a D2S projector.
