Holy ......... silicone, batman!

I'm doing some DIY harley headlights this weekend. The lights are DEPO models and holy SMOKES do they have a lot of silicone holding them together! Probably take most of the day to remove all of it with a lot of trips to the oven to help soften it up...

Here's just the lens, you can see the black going all around the side:


And here are 2 of the housing itself, the gunk is going all around the channel that the lens sits in, gonna require some serious elbow grease to remove:

be careful putting it in the oven so much. it caused my headlights to have spiderweb cracks like crazy

Thanks for the heads up - I've been putting it in there on really low heat (150 degrees) for about 5 minutes at a time. It's working, slowly but surely... I'm about 50% done with one of them. The other actually came clean very easy.

my old lenses were like that for a while idk why they did it. its was way before i painted em for you

150*F is nothing, they get that hot just by using halogen bulbs. You are safe up to 250*. At 280-300 they begin to deform/melt. I use 235*

the ones you gave me had cracks and i swapped my stock headlight lenses over and they cracked too. i guess i left it in the oven too long

How long do you leave them in the oven 'Raptor' ??? Thanks
