fog bulbs!

The hell they wont... my stock is 9140 and didnt do any reading on it before i bought 9145 and they started to melt my lens. i think i kno what im talkin about here bcuz its on my own damn truck... so if you have the circle fogs DO NOT BUY 9145... THOSE ARE ONLY FOR SQUARE FOGS
the only time I melted my fogs is when I tried some Nokia crap which were 65w.....
9145s compared to 9155s in a fog lamp socket arent going to give you but maybe 80-100 lumens. You wouldn't notice the difference sitting in a driver seat. Fog lamps really aren't that beneficial anyways
I've been running Hella's Optilux XYs (Xtreme Yellows) in my '08 for over a year now. No issues whatsoever fitting, melting, etc. I've driven a few different vehicles varying in height including celicas/miatas in front of my truck and in no way did I think they were "too bright" though they defintiely stand out. I have pretty sharp personal standards when it comes to this (i.e. can't stand HIDs in reflectors, ugly purple ricey bulbs, poorly aimed lights). Yes, the XYs are for "Off-Road use only." Also, I swore I ordered 9145s but I don't see them listed anywhere on Hella's site? Hmm...Like I said, they fit and the connectors snapped right into place. Maybe they were the 42w H10s improperly labeled wherever I ordered them from?
In the mountains of New England (just moved to Seattle) they certainly helped out during some very foggy, rainy and snowy conditions. I'm not talking about booking 70mph down the highway, I'm talking about crawling down backroads trying to follow the centerline with damn near zero visibility. They offered some good contrast on the road and cut up the crap clouding in front of me very well.
The rest of the time, they may not be doing much but simply looking cool. I've gotten a few compliments.

I run non-retrofitted 6000k HIDs in my round fogs. While I wont praise the idea of running them in regular housings, I have never been high beamed and they hardly glare more than the headlamps. Actually put out some usable output too.
Far be it for me to disagree with the master, but I think I may have to here. I would suggest that most factory fog lamps are pretty useless no matter what you do with them. I would offer that the 1997-98 and 2004-05 F-150 factory fog lights were a very pleasant surprise though. Both of those vintages came with a great beam pattern and very useful light output. Better yet, both could handle somewhat higher wattage aftermarket bulbs - without melting anything - that just further improved things.
The 2006-13 round factory fogs on the F-150s are definitely useless though. Not only does the beam pattern suck, but adding almost any type of aftermarket bulb that might increase the light output leads to melted plastic.
Finally, if you've ever added a set of well made (Hella, Cibie, etc.) aftermarket fogs to a vehicle, you'll see what a true fog pattern light is capable of doing. They put even the best factory fogs to shame.
And that's what I think Alex really meant to say!
