06 w/ electronic HVAC AC poor cool at idle

My Lariat with the electronic HVAC control doesnt cool when you start it up, will work fine after you start driving it, does this some at stoplights too but not as bad.

I know all cars do this at startup to some degree but this is different, it is like the compressor isnt running at all.

I had the system checked last week by my dealer and freon etc. was perfect, I assumed it was fixed but it still does it.

Any recommendations? Truck has 105,000 miles.

Thanks, Jeff

mine is doing the same, i am assuming my compressor is going bad, and when the truck is idling it doesnt have to power to turn it over, but once the rpms increase it frees it up and starts to work

either one of you have electric fans? I had a similar problem and it was because I wasn't getting enough air flow, wired both fans to come on with a/c and problem was gone.

05SDScrew, can you provide any guidance on the fans you used, installation procedures, etc.?

I'm having the same issue on my 06 Lariat as magstar67.

Same issue here with my 07. Plus my A/C has a rattling noise when engaged. Shop told me could be just out of oil. Need to get it checked out but afraid of the high repair cost. Shop told me $1500 for a compressor kit. Any other options?

I am having the same problem. Have had it in the dealer two times cause it's still under warranty. First time they replaced the a/c clutch fan but that didn't help at all. Second time they said nothing was wrong. There is definitly a problem. It takes forever for it to cool at startup but once on the road it works unless I come to an idle then it starts warming up again. Also there is an unusal smell and almost humid feel when it cuts off. Hard to describe.

Me too especially living in Phoenix. Never really started til I drove here from Florida. I wonder if that constant running affected it

My 2006 FX4 does the samething, I was hoping you guys would have a solution!

I check the pressure on mine, its right at the top of safe zone at 45 psi with the truck idling.

Are the heat / AC doors vacuum or electric? I'm thinking that maybe theres a slow vacuum leak somewhere.

Ready for the answer , FAN CLUTCH , I went through the same ordeal, each dealer would say to spec, but the problem was the weak fan clutch, its to weak when engine is at normal hot operating temp (still keeps engine cool, but it does not pull enough air through ac condensor). When dealers check the truck it has sat for awhile and engine is not hot enough and the fan clutch works correctly. I even went and bought a new ford fan cluth and did the same. Went to oriely and got their severe duty fan clutch and to this day no more hot air on hot start ups or at the red light. This mostly pertains to 06. How did i figure it out, well my dad has an 05 identical, lariat 5.4. One day that the my truck was idling hot(normal operating temp) and ac was not blowing cold, i parked them side by side to do some troubleshooting. Like always his was blowing cold and i saw the installed bug nets(both have bugnets infront of condensor) and i noticed his net was stuck to the ac condensor, and mine was just dangling. Hope this helps
