1998 F150 4.2 L V6 R134a Question

I just got done putting 2 12 OZ cans of R134a into my 1998 F150 4.2L and I was wondering what is the proper system pressure for this year truck to operate at? Before when I added only one can the A/C compressor would just click on and off every 2 seconds. After adding the second can to the system the A/C compressor clicks on and stays on for about 7 Seconds now and the A/C vents are blowing cold air out. With the gauge hooked up to the low-side port each time the A/C compressor clicks on the gauge slowly drops down to around 28 or so PSI and then it clicks off then the pressure builds back up to 45 and it clicks back on and repeats this same procedure. Should I add a 3rd 12 OZ can to the system? Should the compressor stay on alittle longer then 7 seconds? Bye the way outside tempature where I am at is 73 Degrees right now. Thanks for all your help,

Jason

I'm no expert but I think our trucks hold from empty 3x 12-oz cans of R-134a, so unless you have a leak (might want to get it tested) you are probably overcharging the system, which isnt good. I overcharged mine by a whole can and a few months later my clutch shot out. I'm not sure if that was the cause, but I'm about to spend ~$500 to get a whole new system put in tomorrow

The truck setup for 2 years with out the system being ran It took 1 entire 12 oz can to just make the compressor turn on. Then another whole can to get the air blowing out of the vents to become Cold I found the specifications 2 Pounds So 32 OZ just shy of 3 cans. I added half of a 3rd can and the system is blowing nice Cold air out. My system was completely empty I believe.

Yeah hopefully just at some seal or something where the leak sealant can take care of but it's never that simple unfortunately. I live just south of Jacksonville in Orange Park. But I work not to far down the road from Beach Blvd. I go down to Beach to shoot at the gun range there sometimes and go to the All Wet Sports Watersports store.

Well I just joined the forum a few days ago. If I would have been aware of the gathering of Ford Trucks I most certainly would have come out and joined the fun. When you have another meeting in Orange Park or somewhere in Jacksonville I will come out.
