Its either ice or fire
So I have a 2006 Lariat Crew Cab with the 5.4 flex engine that has a whopping 74K miles on it (i bought it new). Over the past 3 months i've noticed that my AC / Heat seems to get 'stuck' on either 60 or 90 degrees. If I turn the temp to say 68 - i get 90 degree air, and the only way to get it to cool down is going all the way to 60 (so if i go 1 degree at a time it just stays put throwing out 90 degree air). Should I assume that this is a bad T-Stat and if so is this somthing i can fix myself (according to Ford i can buy the part for $30, or pay them $210 for the part and for them to install it).
I've seen a few similar posts -but none that have the issue with the temp only having 2 settings.
BTW this is the electronic HVAC (i've never seen a lariat w.o. it but just incase).
Thanks!

It's the blend door that is getting stuck. I think it is with the servo motor that controls it when you move the dial around on the dash for high or cold (or right in the middle).
I hate to say it, but mine is emulating this problem... I've been having other issues with the truck (engine related) and thought it might have something to do with that. Apparently it doesn't... looks like another task for my service center fix.
So let's see... my long list at 32k:
HVAC Blend Door Sticking
Valve Cover Leaking Oil
Screwed up pulley snapring (still can't find a P/N!)
Possible engine ticking (still unsure if me swapping the pulleys did anything)
Argh.. why can't I just get in my truck turn the key and there is nothing wrong.

its a common problem I have seen many times, fix requires blend door actuator replacement. Their is actualy an SSM for this issue but i cant find it at the moment. Replace the actuator and it should fix your problem.
Is this somthing covered under warranty? If not how much can i expect to pay for this repair? Is there anything I can do to prevent it from going out again in another 50-70K miles (planning on keeping this truck for a long time till i can aford a 250 or 350
ive yet to see a repeat issue so dont sweat it too much.
The actuator motor is $25 and Ford is allowing a half hour to replace the part under warranty. Seems to me you should be able to get this done for under $100 if you're out of warranty.

Just to note, I had the same issue, was browsing threads here and stumbled upon this one. I had just been living with the issue up until now, thinking the problem was all in my head (because my last car, a '05 Toyota Matrix) had the same problem...I guess I had just convinced myself the problem was actually a normal behavior.
Anyways, took the 2008 Supercrew into my local dealer yesterday, left it with them for 3hrs and it's working fine now. Still under warranty...no charge.
Thanks guys.

So my mechanic hooked my up to the computer and it was getting all kinds of faults related to the battery bring dead - it is still the factory battery (5 years old) but I can't get my head around how a dieing battery would cause this HVAC problem - supposedly he says the problem is fixed - i pick up the truck in a few hours....has anyone expereinced this fix before???

It may not fall within your problems, but you should read it, if you haven't already. I don't have an EATC, but i do believe this fix will apply to the temp control also
