Vent and floor heat = ac on? Help!

So when I turn my trucks heat to vent/defrost or vent/floor it will turn the ac compressor on? But if I leave it on just floor or vent it is fine. It seems like when it does two at the same time it is clicking on the compressor?

Any idea's ???

Thanks Dave!

not sure about the vent/floor setting, but anytime the defroster is on, the ac will run. that's by design. whether you have just the defroster on or the floor/defrost setting, the ac will run.

edit: just remembered i saw something in my owner's manual when i last read it that the ac will come on with the defroster when the ambient temp is above 35 degrees. i could be wrong about that, but i believe that's what i read.

the defroster uses the a/c to dry the air coming out of the vents. if you are using the defroster to de-fog your windshield for example, blowing out air with any moisture in it will just make the fog worse.

thats just the way these air conditioners are designed.

i think its only the panel setting that doesnt turn the compressor on. there is a wire you can add a switch to that will stop this happening. i wanna say its the purple one coming out of the a/c controls but dont quote me on that.

Fords are typically designed to operate the compressor in all modes except OFF, FLOOR, and VENT.

See your owner's manual for details.

Does it stay on all the time when you turn it to vent/floor or does the compressor cycle on and off?

I guess is should have used the word enabled instead of operate.

Actual operation, once enabled, is still controlled by the cycling switch, relay, and the PCM (depending on year) based on the usual variables.
