A/C system is shot?!
I am wondering if anyone else has even heard of or had the problem I now apparently have with my 05 Supercrew. I haven't been driving the truck lately because of fuel costs and a 90 mile round trip to work every day, soooo the other day I jump in it to run some errands and notice the A/C is not cooling and every time the compressor kicks on it drags the motor down almost to the point were it kills the truck.
I needed an oil change anyway so I took it to the dealership and had them check it out. I get back and they tell me my entire A/C system needs to be replaced due to the (desecan?) bag having torn open and flooded the entire system.
From what I gather this stuff is what takes the moisture out of your system. The dealership is telling me I need to replace everything because they won't guarantee a new compressor because they can't get all this crap out of the system. I was quoted 2000.00 parts and labor to replace everything. Has anyone even heard of such a thing....
Sorry for the long post. Any help you guys can give me would be appreciated.

That stuff is the same type of stuff you find in your new shoe box. There are ways of "washing" a system out. Its not easy. This is a rear thing to happen. I guess your warranty is up? I'll check in my GM van book 'cause thats where I saw the info.
Warranty is long gone, I have 79,000 miles on the truck, I just can't believe that I am going to have to drop 2 large on my A/C....The dealership told me they can try and flush the system but they will not warranty anything put back on because they can't guarantee they got everything.
Thats tough. Its a time consuming job but they should be able to get everything and what they miss will be stopped by the filters in the system. The flushing machine is intended for cleaning out after a bag fail. I would try another dealer.

The COMPLETE SYSTEM is $1250 BRAND NEW, It will take you less than 4 hours to R&R the entire system, and then have it evacuated and charged.
Here is the complete system.
If the desiccant bag burst, its sucked from the accumulator, through the compressor in to the condenser, which will clog up tight, so that just leaves the evaporator which should be clean as the desiccant shouldn't get past the orifice tube, but the core is easily replaced, so buy the kit and have at it.

Wow, your missing all kinds of parts like the flush solution and a way to flush the unit. What about the vacuum pump that will be needed? Hope you have gauges, 30lbs tank of R-134a, a scale, OT, and oil. The only other part you'll need is HVAC/R certificate that lets the EPA know you're qualified to handle the R-134a. After you get all that, you're ready to go.

My A/C is shot also!
I have 05 Supercrew Lariat that I purchased new and just a week ago my A/C started blowing hot air. I hookep up one of those refrigerant kits with hose attached and found out that I had almost 100 psi in the system. I will be taking it to the dealer this week.
Has anyone else had A/C issues with 05's?

That 100 psi was with the AC on MAX full blast correct?
Low side should fluctuate between 25 psi to 45 psi with the compressor turning on and off.
If the 100 psi is with the compressor on then you are way overcharged. It may be so overcharged that you have actually turned your compressor into a liquid pump instead of a gaseous pump, which may be the reason for the drag. Usually when this happens, the compressor blades fail and you lose compression.

the 100PSI static pressure when the system is OFF and equalized is NORMAL.
If your Compressor is not engaging, despite what you set the controls at indicates an electrical problem.
It could be the clutch, wiring, high or low pressure switch, the AC relay, Modes elector switch, fuses, or any of those connectiong unplugged.
IF the compressor does engage and the low side is still at 100PSI the High side won't be much higher if any.
That indicates a compressor failure internally.
Since its doubtful anyone drained your system stole the orifice tube and recahrged the AC one night, that shouldn't be a cause.
With a 100PSI on the low side, a continuously running good condition compressor, the high side would be headed toward 1,000 PSI. The Compressor, hoses, fittings, and other components won't handle those pressures.
That leaves a bad compressor or clutch or electrical that engages the clutch.
Alright people....here's the news.
The dealer said it was the ATC controller, they tested "EATC DTC B1342 HARD FAULT" and replaced the "EATC CONTROLLER ASSY."..."INSTALLED 7L3Z 19980 H : CONTROL". A $500 problem.
The service dept. did a 'goodwill' warranty because mine had expired last month and only charged me the deductibe of $100. I'm still out a hudred bucks but in sunny SoCal it's nice to have cold air coming out the vents.
