Are '05's crap?
what's up with '05's A/C. There are several posts with problamatic A/C systems on '05's. My system just went kaput on my 2005 Lariat and the worst part about it is that my warranty just ran out last month! Also, has anyone noticed the CD headunit spitting out CD's calling them "Bad" cd? Mine just started doing that a few days ago.
I like to think that I take excellent care of '05, I purchased it new and three years in, I'm starting to have problems.

ive got an 05 lariat 4x4 supercab, with 112K on the ticker, and dont have any of those problems. if you are real cool with your dealship service dept. the may fudge the paperwork and say it is still under warranty.
good luck though

We are trading off our 05' Lariat this week due to multiple problems. The heater system got a complete overhaul this winter under warranty. 27k miles and 32 months on the clock - warranty runs out in December so it is outa here. Another guy I know had nothing but problems with the heater. I have not had any trouble with the CD player. I hope the 08' model is better as this one has been in the shop many times.
I love my 05. They replaced the throttle body at 1600 miles and I replaced the front rotors due to bearing failure at 41,000. Other than that, no problems at all and it's still fun to drive. 72,500 miles on it now and I plan on keeping it a long time.

Trading in my 05 seems like a good idea, but then I think...I got one more two years and its paid off!

I am getting a excellent trade in price that amounts to $161 a month for the time I used the vehicle. I have a 96' F350 that I purchased new and to this day it has cost me $210 a month (30k / 143 months). $161 is only going to go up for a few years.
Due to employee pricing and rebates the 08' is cheaper than the 05' was back in late 05'. The 08' Lariat even has many options than the 05' Lariat I have doesn't (Moonroof, navigation, reverse sensors, reverse camera, audiophile, two-tone, 35.7 gallon tank, 20" wheels, and garage door opener along with many options that our 05' does have like electric sliding rear window, tow package, leather captain chairs, bed extender, heated seats, 3.73 limited slip, power pedals and chrome step bar). Only thing new one doesn't have that the old one does is rear seat entertainment due to the moonroof but it never gets used anyway(kids are older now).
Interest rate is better.
Warranty will run out on 05' this December. 08' comes with 5/60 power-train warranty rather than 3/36.
While I will be back to 60 payments rather than 29 I will have 27k miles less and a 08' rather than a 05'. Payments will also be less.
New one has 6.5' bed. I have found that the 5.5' bed on the 05' is too short for many things. I find myself driving my 96' F350 anytime we head for the lumber yard or anywhere else that we might need to haul more than a bag of groceries. Back in 05' the Supercrew was not available with the 6.5' bed but it is now.
The 05' has had nothing but problems so I know the 08' can't be worse but if I wait could the 09' or 10' be worse? This 08' is Fords last chance with me..
You might check you local dealer and see what they have to offer. They are giving the 08' F150's away right now due to low sales.
The 08' has a different grill?? The Lariats on the lot here look the same as the one I have did before I changed it out to a billet style. I was planning on swapping them when I swap trucks. You must be talking about the 09' grill?
Alright people....here's the news.
The dealer said it was the ATC controller, they tested "EATC DTC B1342 HARD FAULT" and replaced the "EATC CONTROLLER ASSY."..."INSTALLED 7L3Z 19980 H : CONTROL". A $500 problem.
The service dept. did a 'goodwill' warranty because mine had expired last month and only charged me the deductibe of $100. I'm still out a hudred bucks but in sunny SoCal it's nice to have cold air coming out the vents.

Ya' know guys....
I'm not going to say that some AC systems, in some newer vehicles have not / will not develop "additional problems".... but as I have said many times before, ALL of the new AC systems, in ALL new vehicles just totally suck, because of the crap coolant they are being forced to use. Oh sure, it's probably better for the environment (as would be about 5 billion less human beings) but it just sucks for keeping vehicles, and homes cool.
The AC in my 08' sucks too, but I totally expected it. I learned all about this from the crap AC system in my 07' Hyundai, and from my mechanic. Gone are the AC systems that will, as the saying goes, "freeze you out".
