A/C on 2005 F150
I purchased my 05 f150 in sept. of 2005. The A/C was never as cold as I felt it should be when I drove it home. But since it is black I though it just might be the color. If the ac is set to max (recirculate) which it does go to recirculate. It does get colder about 52 deg. out of the vents. but on fresh it only gets to 62. I just decited just to live with it. My friend just got a new Tundra. supercrew and that thing is a icebox compaired to mine even when on fresh air. So I was charging the a/c on my neighbors car yesterday and thought since I had my gauge out I would just check it. The low pressure was 60 PSI at ilde. From my gauge this was almost in the red. I usually set the low side to 35 psi for 134. I know from expierence that it wont get cold if it is overcharger. my a/c brains seems to be working correctly I dont have to turn it off and on the get it to function. It seems to cool alot better when I am driving down the road but when I am stoped it goes up to about 70 degrees vent temp. I got thinking mabey the fan clutch was faulty when I bought the truck and that is what caused the high low side pressure at idle buy not pulling enough air through the condenser. The High pressure line gets so hot you cant touch it for more than a one or two seconds. The compresure does cycle when I am driving down the road But wont at Idle. I had a 1996 F150 the blew 38 degrees and My 1989 mustang that has been retrofitted with 134 blows at 40. It is under waranty still so I am going to take it in hopefully tomarrow or this evening. I have been reading that most of this gen F150 seen to have ac problems And am afraid that the dealer wont be able to fix it. If they cant I dont mind spending a little time an money to get it right if that is possible or Are these systems just Engineered poorley?
As long as air is moving across the condensor, great cooling. Remember this ac was sized for a 2-door truck,so supercab & screw have more volume & heat load. If you are a ac tech, you probably can "tune " the ac a bit more.
You will have to leave it on max air or recirculate to get good cooling.
E-fans would help.

back from dealer
Ok well I got it back from the dealer yesterday. They said that it was slightly low on 134 and that it had a small leak at the compressor manifold. They evacuated the system replaced the o-rings and recharged. It blew 40 deg. the whole way home.
I did find out that at the time I had checked the low side pressure it was 90 deg. out and I had just been driving so it was hot under the hood as well so seeing 60 psi is pretty normal at high ambient temps.
Same thing here with same truck, black 05 supercrew.
In the summer heat, will not cool when cranked and idling. Once I get going it seems to work okay, but not great. Dealership says it is "working to specification."
Specification must suck.

no air movement
I read in another post someone having the same problem said that he installed electric pusher fans in front of the condenser. This cured his problem which makes since seeing the only thing that is changing is the lack of air movement across the condenser when you are stoped. Mine is working good now but this was the next thing I was going to try.
Same here. Sadly I don't even use my a/c now because my commute home 10 minutes and the truck just won't cool down. I only use the a/c if I'm making a highway trip. it's the only time it gets cool enough ( to my standards). I can't really buy the whole "a/c was designed for a regular cab". They built and designed this truck from the ground up back an 04 an released them with the supercrew cabs. They had to know what it would take to cool it.
The a/c and seat cushion are my only two gripes with this truck. Other than that, I love it.

I had a similar problem and the dealer replaced the compressor on my truck under warrenty and it now works well. : )

Would this be the same thing? Sometimes when I get in my 06 Screw(Black) I will start it up and let it run for 5 - 10 min at idle and the air never starts blowing cold until after I start driving the darn thing down the road. THis is the same even when parked in the shade or direct sunlight. I have 22,000 miles now so should I run it throgh he dealer now?
I've got an 06 Screw I bought used back in Feb so I haven't needed to use the A/C until recently. I've been experiencing the same thing with it though. It doesn't seem to get very cool unless I am moving and even then it doesn't seem as cold as it should be. Max setting feels better, but definitely not as cold as my wife's 01 Expy. I dropped it off at the dealer this morning. They called and said they found refrigerant seepage around some O-rings so they are replacing the O-rings and recharging the system. I sure hope it fixes it. We're about to enter the warm season in central TX. 8-)
AC Temp
My 05 SuperCab is having similar cooling problems. "Your truck is running within specifications". Either the specs suck or this guy was pissed that I brought in a warranty problem. Either way my AC is weak by comparison.
How do you test the system for leaks and temperature?

I am convinced the ac sucks in these trucks and it is making me think of getting rid of a truck I love. It has been 110+ for a week and supposed to be for at least another week. I can't believe a truck with an MSRP of over 40K has such crappy ac.
AC Temp
I am going back to the dealer and take another shot at getting my AC running better. I am hoping that another service writer might get another mechanic to look at the truck and solve the problem.
The '07s are no better. When it's over 85 I have to keep mine cranked full fan speed in recirc mode to keep cool. When I get in stop and go gridlock traffic it gets considerably warmer. Whenever I hit the gas more than 1/2 way or so it also blows warmer air for a few seconds. I thought compressor cut-outs were only supposed to actuate at wide-open throttle
I know I'm not just being picky because I've never had these problems with any other vehicles' AC systems.

Mine is only marginally better after the o-ring replacement and recharge. It is tolerable right now, but just barely. This could be the one thing that ends up forcing me to trade this thing in on something else. I bought it back in Feb with only 7.5K miles on it. I've been wondering why the previous owner traded it in with such low mileage and no obvious flaws. The A/C must be it. 8-)
