A/C Blows Cold....Then Hot?????
I have a 98 F150 that has air conditioning problems. The air conditioning works fine at first, blowing really cold. After varying lengths of time (40 mins plus) it just starts blowing hot air. Occasionally, it will just start blowing cold again later. Sometimes it will blow cold again after the truck has been shut off for a while.
Hopefully, someone will know what is causing this.

Is your cooling fan operating correctly? It sounds like once the engine gets hot the compressor shuts down until the engine temp comes back down. Do you have any overheating problems? If not then maybe your pressure switch for the a/c compressor is going bad.
I am having the exact same issue with my 97. It is ice-cold when it does blow. Some days I can drive for an hour in air conditioned comfort. Turn it off at the gas station and back on but, no ac. I got my Haynes out today hoping for a relay. The pressure switch makes sense but I'll have to have an AC guy do it.
Just remembered I also had issues with the clutch having too big of an airgap to engauge. I pulled off the cover and laped the shim down about .010" by doing figure 8's on a peice of sandpaper. It's been working fine for the last 2 years.
What Its Not (At least on my truck)
I replaced the low pressure cut off switch and the AC cycle switch, but it didn't get the compressor to come on. I even let some of the freon out to lower the pressure and then added some back to see if I could find a point that the compressor would like better, but nothing.
I drove down to Gulfport last week and baked. Of the 1,540 miles, it was on for maybe 200 miles at the most. There was no pattern, as in day or night, or how long it had been running, to when the compressor would finally come on. But when it did come on, the air was cold. (30-50 degrees)

CHECK YOUR AIRGAP!
Just hit the clutch with a rubber mallet or a broomstick while it's supposed to be engaged but is not. If it pulls in with your "help", reduce the shim or replace the clutch.

I have the same problem on my 2001. I noticed that when it's not blowing cold air, the compressor is not turning. I tapped the pully as stated above and it engaged and started blowing cold air. I have not taken it apart yet but as a short term fix, I keep the back windows open a bit to keep the compressor running.
I have a 99 f-150, when the engage the air condition the compressor will engage for 10seconds and disengage for about 10 seconds. is this normal. I'm sure this is the reason that it blows hot and cold. I have read that other people from these post will hit the clutch with t rubber mallet, but where is clutch located at? is it the circular thing that engages that is attached to the belt? also some people say reduce the shim how would you go about doing this, is it something I can do or does a professional need to do this?
AC Blows Hot
I have a 2003 F150 4.6L and my AC does not work. Whenever I place the control on Auto or Max AC it blows hot air through the windshield vents. I only get moderately cool air (not cold) when I place the control on Panel/Vent. The dealer tells me it is the Automatic Climate Control Module that needs replacement. How can I confirm if that is the case?

Get a second opinion from a qualified technician.
