04-06 vs 07+ Nav HUs ????

I'm looking to upgrade from my stock AM/FM, single CD, cassette, SAT, HU to a Ford Nav HU. Naturally I'm looking on ebay and I've got a question...

The units pulled from 07+ vehicles are DVD capable and the Nav is DVD based. I've found a couple 06 units that the sellers say are 6CD units and the NAV is CD (No DVD capability?) based but they look very similar.

Was there a change in 07? Are the earlier 06 units different, ie. CD only, no DVD ability and CD based NAV?

I just wanna be sure I don't buy the wrong HU or at least be certain of what I'm buying. I'd assume the CD only units would be cheaper but it seems pointless to do such an upgrade and not go to DVD.

Help!

Don't know too much about factory stuff but have you considered getting an aftermarket nav? There are so many better options you can use with them and they've come down a good amount as far as price is concerned.

Much better way to go in my opinion.

I'd prefer to stay stock and I'm looking at a budget of about $600 - I haven't seen anything Aftermarket much less than 1K. If it's out there, let me know. But the original question about the stock units still stands...

i used to say the same thing about keeping it stock , but i got tired of Fm transmittors and the cables.

so i bought a Pioneer D3 . i love it , it looks great in the dash. Nav is ok on it, i mainly bought it for my ipod.

they go for around $600 now.

i would just go aftermarket , spend a few extra $ , and get 2x as many options

Thanks. I'll check out the Pioneer unit but I'm still looking for an answer to the original question...

(Well I can get the D3 for a it over $600 but what's with having to buy a cable for the iPod, and adapters for blue tooth and sirrius? that's another $230 bucks!)

2007 Nav unit is a 6 disc CD player, the touchscreen is motorized and reveals a separate DVD slot for the Nav disc. Units are Sirius satellite compatible, and will work with all steering wheel controls, AUX input, as well as the rear seat DVD entertainment system. Most recent sale on ebay went for $800. I bought one 2 years ago for my 07 King Ranch, am waiting on an 09 Platinum, and will be pulling the 07 Nav unit before it returns to the company. If interested, I will be selling the unit in about 6-8 weeks once I have confirmed delivery of the 09. Let me know.
