hello I am a newbie here.... I have a 1999 F150 and need a tail gate for it as it has been rusted away... I was in need of info on what years would interchange with my 99.... any help would be appreciated

 

If you have a Styleside, any 97-03 except Flareside or SuperCrew.

1999-2016 Super Duty tailgates are interchangeable with 97-03 F150.
The SD tailgate from 08-16 uses a different left side hinge to actuate the built in torsion lift spring. Hinge cost me about $15 with tax at a Ford dealership. Also the 08-16 are the ones with "Super Duty" lettering stamped into the tailgate.
So yes, you can easily upgrade a 97-03 F150 to a Super Duty tailgate with built in step and camera.

The tail lights are also interchangeable. The early ones are an exact fit and the later SD tail light housing will bolt onto the 97-03 F150 body but are wired different.
