double din radio opinions (good/bad/ugly)

group,

would like any opinions of a couple double din units I am looking at.

JVC KW-XG700

Pioneer FH-P8000BT
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...&tp=5684&avf=N

JVC KW-XC410
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...&tp=5684&avf=Y

Clarion DUZ385SAT
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...&tp=5684&avf=Y

Or any others that I might have missed. I want the most factory looking unit but with the best review from our group. I dont plan on getting anything to fancy speakerwise, just replacing the factory units. I have an ipod currently i would like to control thru the head unit. Sub in the future.

Any opinions would be great.

Very nice radio. Kinda has some bling to it so I wouldn't say it's "factory looking" but every customer has been happy with it. Some people like the front USB port and others complain that they don't like the memory card sticking out of the dash. A plus is that it has front, rear, and subwoofer RCA outputs.

Pioneer FH-P8000BT
I have a two customers that have purchased this radio. The included bluetooth is nice and clear. When the radio is off it pretty much blacks out except for the shinny **** in the middle.

Clarion DUZ385SAT
I personally have installed many of these radios in the trucks and they look great.
I think the Clarion DUZ385SAT radio is the most factory looking radio with great sound. With it I usually team it up with the Clarion 5x7/6x8 speakers. Their Good Series SRG5720C 5x7s are very light weight 2way coaxial and sound nice. Their Quality Series SRQ5730C 5x7s or SRQ6830C 6x8s are a bit smoother sounding and are a 3way coaxial speaker. Only drawback if any on this radio is that it only has 4channel RCA outputs on it with the rears being able to be turned into non-fading subwoofer outs.

Tomorrow hopefully I will finally get a chance to take pictures of one that I put in a Corvette. I always forget my camera when I'm near his house but he's bringing it by for me to look at adding a subwoofer to it. To me it is a very nice factory looking radio and has all the features with great sound to boot.

I'm diggin' the Clarion.

I've never had a bad piece of Clarion equipment. In fact, I still have a changer I bought in '91, a head unit and EQ from '93, 2 head units and a changer from '98 (1 HU and changer currently in my '99). All still work flawlessly... except for a tape deck drive that broke when I was feeling "adventurous."

They have a very intuitive user interface too... and a remote makes it even easier.

My $.02.

So saying that... If I wanted to add a sub to the mix down the road, it will get tricky if I go the Clarion route?

How would that work? If I kept the door speakers on the HU and hung an amp off of it somewhere....

Travis... Love the remote start that I bought from you this Christmas.... Thanks.

Basically you said it right there. Use the radio to run the speakers and run your RCAs to the subwoofer amplifier. I think I got my radios confused. The Clarion DOES NOT have the capability to turn the rear RCA output to a Subwoofer control but it has not been a problem considering most subwoofer amplifiers have a volume control **** for the dash. The last system that I did for a F150 using the DUZ385SAT radio was using a DB Drive PT750H Hybrid amplifier. This amplifier is a 3 channel amp pushing 100 watts out the front two channels and 250 watts on the single subwoofer channel. This is all at a 4 ohm load. Bridge your front and rear speakers together at a 2 ohm load and your amp pushes 250 watts per channel and on the subwoofer end a slamming 500 watts at 2 ohms. The mono side is 1 ohm stable but I have never needed to bridge it to that. I have been using this amp for systems for years. This year model has a fan built into the top of it under the lit DB logo and pulls air right on top of the board to cool it.

Here's the deal. Of all the trucks I have done with the Clarion DUZ385SAT they have either had no Audiophile system or I have removed theirs for a new sub box and amplifier.

I actually have a question for someone here. Does the Audiophile radio set the low pass frequency for the Audiophile subwoofer or does the subwoofer enclosure and amp have the low pass crossover internally? In other words can I feed a full range frequency into the Audiophile sub assembly and it will play lowpass?

On all the vehicles that I have put radios into with the Audiophile subwoofer they have been with receivers that have a subwoofer output on them. I don't think I have ever added one without it.

New Clarion DUZ385SAT Head Unit is on its way. Plus Clarion SRP1620M Platinum Series 6-1/2" / 6"x8" Multifit Speaker System, Clarion SRQ6830C Quality Series 6"x8" 3-Way Triaxial Speaker.

The 6x8s in the back. The component set up front. Should be here today. Going to try to install this weekend. I'll take tons of pictures and share. I'm looking forward to em.

I just replaced my factory head unit with a Kenwood DPX302, replaced all door speakers with Pioneer 3-ways, and added a Kenwood KSC-SW1 powered sub under the back seat. Very easy install and sounds great. Couldn't be happier.

I like the clarion head unit. If you're going to go with a sub and don't want to lose space, look into the Kenwood I talked about. If you like a LOT of low bass or listen to a lot of rap, hip hop, etc. you might not like it. If you're into rock and just want some added bass to fill in the holes, you'll like it.

Here is the information I got from crutchfield when I asked about my factory sub system.

"The factory stereo only sends 5V to the sub amp. When an aftermarket stereo is installed, there may be a turn on/off pop from the subwoofer. To avoid this, a 12V to 5V regulator can be installed on the remote lead. The Radio Shack part is 276-1770. (This regulator has three terminals: the first is the input, the second is the ground and the third is the output. The regulator produces a large amount of heat for its size and should be bolted or screwed to a clean metal surface that will act as a heat sink)."
