What oil to use

I'm in SoCal, but it stays 70 almost year round on the coast. I did my oil change today - Mobil 1 SuperSyn (for newer vehicles) 5w-30 and a Tough Guard oil filter ($7 at W-M).
While I was under looking for leaks, I heard some weird metal "grinding" from the tranny. (I was in my garage.) I never noticed this on my '01, though different tranny. I climbed out from underneath and could distinctly hear it throughout the garage.
Also, as my chip gets 2K miles on it, it is harder to start (takes longer to turn over). I reseat the chip and it still happens. I have to completely reset the ECU to get rid of it.

Dont see why not...Ive only used standard oil for the first few break in changes just for the simple fact that the syn is much more expensive and the first few oil changes come so rapidly that the regular oil doesnt degrade enough to matter. Its when you plan on waiting a full 3k or 5k miles between oil changes that syn is beneficial.
Which reminds me...I really need an oil change :/
