Unhappy Gas Mileage on the HD!

I don't know about you guys but I'm not getting very good gas mileage! Although I do gun on it quite a bit it's running about 14 mpg. What are you guys running?

I have 17.5k miles on the truck....16.5k are all done on the interstate with the cruise locked at 80mph@2300rpm

I used to have a superchip installed, best mileage I ever got was 15mpg.

Once it was removed, Im averaging 16mpg, with a best of 16.5mpg.

Im considering dropping the gear ratio in the back from 3.55 to 3.08 or less.

All my driving is done on the highway..I dont pull much.

My 2001 gets anywhere from low 16's to maybe 18 depending on how I drive. I've noticed since I got my true dual exhaust, it has gone down some. Likely due to my slightly heavier foot as I love the sound.

Wow....you guys arent doing too well in the gas department. The fastest I ever really go is 70 MPH. Usually 55-60 since thats where I get the best mileage. I get around 20-22 MPG depending on speed, climate, and weather. Heres the list of products I have :

K&N FIPK Gen II
K&N Air Filter
Jacobs Electronics Mileage Master Igntion System
Poweraid Throttle Body Spacer
Gibson Performance SuperSport Exhaust
JBA Headers
SVT Ford Lightning Throttle Body
Granatelli Mass Air Flow Sensor
Hypertech Programmer III
ProTurque torque converter (<---This is the SH*T!)

Im thinking of getting some more stuff like a functional Ram Air hood but first im gonna get the suspension done with a So-Cal kit. This will help in the gas department since it makes the truck a bit more aerodynamic. Also, if you dont already have one, GET A TONNO!

Oh yea...one more thing. Does that superchip thats advertised on this site on that banner (the blue one) give you better mileage? I've heard it gives a lot in the HP department but was wondering about the mileage you get with it?

I average 11 mpg in city and around 13 plus on the road. Have just got my cover, so will see if this makes any difference.

My superchip didnt help me at all...only thing it did was cause me to fill up with 93 octane rather than 87.

I sold it to Badgene...perhaps he is getting better results from it.

bikestudga: Yup, looks like where I'm hovering. I do not have a soft touch. I think in city, I average around 12 MPG, and on highway, it can go up around 15, and very rarely, 16 MPG. I like to pull hard and fast from stop, so I know I'm wasting a lot of gas there...

During the week, most of my driving is from my place (Midtown, ATL) to my girlfriend's place in Marietta. It's about 15 miles, much of it on I-75, and I rarely go slower than 80 MPH, traffic-allowing. I get around 13 MPG then.

I do some mostly highway driving, mainly to Savannah, GA and I did do a long trip on my F150 Harley right after I got it (to Key West, FL), and I just got back last week from Gainesville, FL. I think I get around 14 MPG to 15 MPG then at around 85 MPH on cruise control.

I hear that hard tonneau helps out a lot with mileage and I'm seriously considering it now...

The supercrews get less MPG then the flareside ones. The reason being that they are heavier

And the tonno helps a lot and so does the torque converter. With those two, I really felt a difference off the line and in thw wallet

My lid and exhaust didn't get me any noticable gains on mpg on a superscrew. Just better sound and looks.

I get about 12 but all the miles are around town. My commute is about 5 miles and I work on the other end of town. I am going to take a few road trips this month and am interested in what kind of fule mileage I will get. I agree that if you keep the speed below 70 it will be up around the EPA rating (19 mpg).
