I never even think about gas mileage. I do drive every day to work, and don't have to fill up but every 2 1/2 to 3 weeks.Only push it hard occassionally. It does shift better and seems to pull harder with the chip though. Will really open her up next week on my way to Vegas. I'll try to remember to calculate the mileage.

I got about every drop of gas put in my truck recorded in a notebook, and I'll post it tomorrow. I usually made some notes each fillup so I can remember how I drove it (city, highway, mixed, etc) as well.

Before the Chip and the FIPK I was getting around 14 mpg. Now I get a little over 16 mpg average and closer to 18 on highway trips. I got around 14 mpg towing my 19 ft center console on a 300 mile trip. The Chip and the K&N made a big difference. I usually don't drive much over 70.

Still breaking my H-D Supercrewzer (1300) miles, but mileage seems to hovering around 15 (mixed driving). I am extremely light footed.

As mentioned in another post on this tread .... I am considering going with a much taller gear than that 3.73. I really don't need it. I plan on taking some "long" vacations in this truck and need the cruiseability.

Cheers

I get about 15 miles per gallon pre Harley tonneau and 16 mpg after. Ride it hard and it drops to around 13.

Guess I'm doin about average!

Well just checked mine again and it read 13.56 mpg. After reading all you guys post I'm seeing that with the way I drive 13-14 mpg is about right. I'm still havin fun with my loud exhaust and heavy foot, I also have a tendency to use first and second gear just for the heck of it so that might affect mileage too. Found out the other day that they finally have my lock cylinder for the tonneau cover even though it's generic and will have to have its own key it works for me since the cover itself has been sitting there for almost 3 months! Maybe that will help a little as well?!

CaughtYaLukin I was wondering about that torque converter that you were talkin about, what exactly does it do and how much does it cost? Thanks

Well well well... I crunched all the numbers and the picture comes out grimmer than I had thought. Since I purchased my '01 F150 Harley on 5-12-01, I filled it up 29 times, averaging about 18 gallons per fillup. Median figure is a bit higher than that. In all, my baby gulped down 751.36 gallons in 3.5 months at average price of $1.38 per gallon, the high being $1.669 West Palm Beach, FL 6:00PM on 5-27-01 and the low being $1.169 on thre eseparate occasions, all in Atlanta, GA area. The highest gas mileage I got was during a rather leisurely stroll to Savannah, GA on 5/25/01 where I got 16.05 MPG. The worst was 11.477MPG I got tooling around town last half of July, 01. My average gas mileage, city and highway combined, so far is: 13.622 MPG.

Some interesting factoids. My pre-1000 miles gas mileage is 14.356 MPG. My mileage after that is 13.644 MPG. So much for breaking in an engine helping the gas mileage.

My gas mileage before K&N FPIK was 14.328 MPG. Mine after K&N installation is 13.266.

My gas mileage before Flowmaster 50 install was 14.189. After is 13.264.

I could very well be stepping on the gas more after the mods, and I do catch myself stomping just to hear the whoosh and the roar. Also, I was very much into the whole "cruising" mentality when I first got the truck, but soon changed my driving style to my usual: "Get there yesterday." I've also added a Class III hitch that added some weight.

I'm due a long highway drive to Savannah this weekend. I'll drive lightly and see if that saves the gas any.

BTW, if I had eased off on the gas all these months and improved my gas mileage by 2 MPG, I would've saved $92.18. In a year, it may be over $350. Ah well.

Interesting Fact

The worst year in history for American carmakers gas mileage was 1958, when the average American-Built automobile averaged 12.8 miles per gallon. So you're telling me that in the last 43 years, these trucks have only improved from the average by 0.5 miles per gallon. (And this including advancements such as fuel injection, overhead cams, etc.) Not stating a conspiracy or anything, just pointing out an interesting fact...

doods,

if I get 11 mpg, I rejoice! What's the trouble? Should I see the dealership regarding this? As you guys know, I have a 2001 HD Supercrew with a superchip. WTF????

I'm not really complaining too much. I didn't buy the truck for it's economy. If I wanted economy, I would have purchased a Honda Hybrid or something equally depressing.

If my math is correct, I got around 16 mpg going to and from Vegas. Cruised around 80-85 over fairly hilly country.

Trip

Took a run from Virginia to Orlando, Fl with a stopover in Jacksonville going and coming. Total mileage for trip, was 17.49, again, using the cruise and running 75-80.
I'll take it....

In the year I've owned the HD my average is about 17.5 to 18 Imperial Gal (slightly larger than a US gal). No sig improvement with 3 months of the cover on; about 50/50 highway and shorthaul. About 4000 mi on the ODO. Best mileage was the first tank on drive from dealer at about 22...not really babying the ride since like to hear the sound which explains lower mileage since breakin. Not complaining tho--figure its the price of ownership.
