2007 Harley Track and E85 Fuel

Hello I'm Henry from Germany. I've buy a new Harley Truck for me. I've a question:
The owners manual says "If you will use E85 must be the 8th caracter from the VIN the letter "V" .
My Track don't have V it has 5.
I've never see a Harley Truck withe the letter "V" on the 8 caracter.
My question:
- Is FFV E85 for the Harley Track avalable?
- It's possible to install FFV components?

Here in Germeny cost one LITER unleaded fuel 1,40 EUR and E85 cost 0,90 EUR per LITER.
Thanks for answers.

Hi Henry and welcome to F150online.

I'm sorry, I can't answer your question on E85 and compatibility but have you considered an LPG conversion if running costs are an issue?

Yes, LPG is an big issue. I just install a plant. But think if I have an E85 refuel, it's more cheeper for me.
Thanks. Henry

Hey Henry,

It would be theoretically possible to upgrade to E85 compatibility, but you might have to replace the entire fuel system from fuel pump to injectors... and you would have to reflash/replace the ECM.

From previous discussions with my associates in our fuel controls systems, the problem with E85 is that the Ethanol adds more water content than you find in regular gasoline. So if you run this in a normal (non-E85 compatible) vehicle you will kill the fuel pump due to corrosion. E85 fuel pumps are made with better materials (part of the higher cost) so they won't corrode. I'm not sure the full impact on the rest of the fuel system, but I imagine you would also have to upgrade the other components.

I'm not sure if they make an E85 version of the Harley... you'd have to check with a dealer probably... or maybe you could go on Ford's website and try "building" a Harley version with E85?

Henry,

I can now answer your first question... I got bored and went onto Ford's website to build a vehicle - you can't get the Flex Fuel engine on the Harley Davidson. When I tried to change it to flex fuel it said I had to go to the XLT model.

Yes, I've also tried.
Pity. I hope it works.
I'll only install the LPG plant.
LPG cost only .60 EUR per LITER. but the plant cost round 3000,- EUR.
Thanks a lot!

Check the inside of your gas cover, it should say there if it is E85 compatable.

hasen't the pro's/con's of E85 and 87-octane autogas been stated before? majorly bad idea to run E85 because of BTU's and all that goos stuff.

henry, if your having fuel issus, why did u buy a supercharged 5.4L??? surely a Screw with a FFV engine would've fit you better?

I've buy a Harley Truck, because the Truck is nice. Ford don`t offers the Harley truck as FFV.
I've a simly 5.4 V8 not a supercharger.
If I can save fluel cost here in Germany, I'll do that.
Thanks
