Post Second Annual F-150 Online National Rally Dates!

To All,

We have finally firmed up the dates for this year's Rally, and as we've been telling people it would most likely be, it is confirmed for the last weekend in July, Friday the 27th, Saturday the 28th, and Sunday the 29th, in Norfolk, Virginia.

The structure will be similar to last years event, though there will be no tour of the Norfolk Ford light-truck assembly plant, as they have refused to return all calls, unlike their gracious hospitality last year.

Friday will offer a free concert on the oceanfront, featuring the Fat Ammons band.
Saturday is the drag strip event, and then Sunday will be a group brunch & perhaps other events as well, we'll just see how the weekend goes for everyone, as we want to add a Show & Shine competition as well.

This is not the actual "official" announcement, this is just to let everyone know that the Rally's dates are confirmed so they'll know for vacation requests, etc.

The "official" announcement, with all the details, times, hotels, etc. will be posted here shortly, as we are in the process of getting all of that info together for the Webmaster to post just as he kindly did for last years Rally.

We hope to see you all there!

Hi Steve,

Yes, we are puting all of that together as we speak, and will get all that info to you ASAP, Steve.

The way you put all of that together last year on the site was wonderful, very appealing & informative, and much of that info will still apply, so (hopefully) you'll have less work to do this time around.

You'll be getting the email very soon, Steve, & as always, thanks very much for all your help!

I know the feeling murfster. I'll be in Nova Scotia that weekend. Ironic that it's happening in my backyard and I'll be 1000 miles away.

HI Brian,

Great, looking forwartd to seeing you & Bettina again this year!

And no, the blower *still* isn't on the Mark, we just haven't had the time to get everything else done just yet, haven't had time to put it down long enough to get the tranny out & shipped off for it's work, etc., but eventually we'll get there.

How about having a truck pull for us 4x4 guys that don't drag race? All you need is a pulling sled and a few hundred feet of dirt.

Any thoughts?

Im with Wingnut, it's kinda hard to race a 4x4 at the dragstrip.....so a truck pull would be great for those of us that have the 4x4's........sooooo i say lets go for it !!!!!!

Hi Guys,

Any 4X4 that can be driven on the street can easily be run at the drag strip, there is nothing preventing a street-legal 4WD vehicle from running at the drag strip. It happens almost every day all around the country. We did it last year at the Rally and we're doing it again this year, running 4x4's at the strip. In fact, the drag strip is far easier on a street-legal 4WD vehicle than any kind of truck pull would ever be, as far as the strain on the vehicle.

To directly answer your question, there will not be a truck pull event at this year's Norfolk Rally You can see the scheduled events just by clicking on the Rally link at the top right of this screen. It's just far too late to add any additional event now, the Rally weekend was all planned out long ago. It's a multi-day event with numerous activities, and all of that has to be planned out in advance, logistics, etc. to make it work, and there just isn't the time or money required to add this kind of event to this year's Norfolk Rally.

It's easy to say "all it takes is some dirt and a sled", but speaking as the Event Organizer who actually does the work required to put these events together, the fact is it takes *far* more than just some dirt and a sled. It takes a facility, a place to hold the event, it takes resources, it takes dirt being hauled in and probably hauled back out again, it takes someone to lay out the course and someone to run the event, it takes someone (and usually several people) to run the sled, bring it in and take it back to it's owner, and it takes food & drink vendors to keep everyone fed & watered, but most importantly of all, it takes someone to PAY for all of this.

That's the reality of putting an event like a truck pull together, it takes a lot of long hard work and money to make something like that happen.

If you guys would like to do a truck pull event, and if enough people are interested and are willing to make the funds available, then we'd be happy to take a look at perhaps doing that at a future Rally. Heck, we'd love to see this grow into a week-long event packed with many different activities in the years to come! Let us know in the future if you have others interested who would like to do this and are willing to pay for it to make it happen, and who knows, we just might be able to offer this in the future!

Thanks very much for your suggestion guys, & we hope to see you at the Rally!
