Global Warming?!?!?!?!?!?!?
just a thought...if there is global warming than why is it that when you watch the weather all the heat records were set 10,20,30+ years ago?
we are the smartest animals earth has ever seen we will figure it out. we always have.
we are the smartest animals earth has ever seen we will figure it out. we always have.
Its so damn simple:
MANKIND does NOT effect global warming. Is there global warming, maybe or maybe not. It don't really matter because the fact is there is NOT a damn thing we can do to correct it if it is happening.
It amazes me that some people really think humans can have an effect on mother earth. Here is another FACT that the enviromental wackos won't ever tell you and that is there are more trees in America today then when America was settled.
The earth cleans itself. Most people may not know this, but way back, hundreds if not millions of years ago there were ALOT more vacanoes (sp?) errupting and spewing toxics into the air prior to humans driving cars, grilling steaks, and using hairspray and guess what we are still here, still breathing, still walking upright and thanks to ALgore we are able to use the internet.
For peope who are really really concerned and have a false belief that humans are hurting mother earth by driving, grilling and using hairspray then do something about it and quit complaining to those of us that DONT believe the BS. Show your "Really" concerned and want to do something by getting rid of you truck/car, stop grilling, and stop using hairspray and we will see if that changes anything a few hundred years from now...
In the mean time I am going to drive a few extra hundred miles to spew some more toxic into the envirment to help get rid of the damn snow outside my door...

Oh, another question. Why do people who are so damn concerned about mother earth and gas guzzling trucks causing harm to mother earth, why are THEY driving a TRUCK in the first place???
Makes you wonder, who is actually talking the talk and walking the walk.... hummmmmm
I bet they grill and possible use hairspray too...

What is so scary about warmer weather? It is better for everyone, especially us guys that love to polish our trucks...
No need to be scared about something you have NO control over, live life happy, not worried. When I lived in Calif. I was never scared about earthquakes since I had no control when or where they would happen I learned how to live and deal with it.
Same goes for global warming, don't worry about something you can not control. Look at the positive side of it, without global warming we would still be in the Ice Age, hummmm something to think about huh?

I challenge you to prove your theory that volcanic eruptions causes global warming. I challenge you to prove that gasses and particulates emitted from volcanoes causes global warming.
If you know anything at all about eruptions, you'd know that you are misinformed and you are misinforming others here about volcanoes.
I'll help you out with something that's easily found on the net:
Comparison of CO2 emissions from volcanoes vs. human activities.
Scientists have calculated that volcanoes emit between about 130-230 million tonnes (145-255 million tons) of CO2 into the atmosphere every year (Gerlach, 1999, 1992). This estimate includes both subaerial and submarine volcanoes, about in equal amounts. Emissions of CO2 by human activities, including fossil fuel burning, cement production, and gas flaring, amount to about 22 billion tonnes per year (24 billion tons). Human activities release more than 150 times the amount of CO2 emitted by volcanoes--the equivalent of nearly 17,000 additional volcanoes like Kilauea (Kilauea emits about 13.2 million tonnes/year)!

Just a couple things to think about.
All the tree huggers who sight the warming tendencies say that the earth has warmed by XXdeg in the past century. The reason they state the whole century is that all the warming occured in the first 40 years. before the deadly cfc's in air conditioners and hair spray.
They also point out the thinning ozone layer at the south pole when all the causing factors are in the northern hemisphere (sp?). They also fail to mention that the penguins that live there are the only animals on the earth that have a substance in their skin that filters out the UV. That means that thay adapted to a situation that has always been there or animals can develope tha resistence very easily.

Ultra violet rays from the sun getting through the ozone layer causes skin cancer. Knowing that, it doesn't take a big stretch to realize that humans have already adapted. If you're black, you have melanin in your skin and the chances of your getting a skin melanoma are a lot lower than that of whites. If you are white, you are doomed to living a life where the rates of getting skin melanoma is increasing every year.
Dennis,
Try this short quote from the included link.
CAUSE OF GLOBAL WARMING
1. main reason: increase in atmospheric CO2 because of industrial revolution (burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas). For thousands of years, CO2 level was at 280 ppm (evidence: measure 'old' air trapped in polar ice layers). During past century, CO2 level has risen to 353 ppm (1990 measurement).
2. secondary reason: Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's) in spray propellants, air conditioners and refrigerators (attempts to ban CFC's worldwide).
3. large volcanic eruptions: e.g. Mt. St. Helens.

Note that it is from Vanderbilt. It kills those folks to admit that anything but people can do anything bad.

I think that us being the cause for so called global warming is nothing more than a theory created by tree-huggers and democrats to allow them to gain more control of our lives. I remember years ago scientists and protestors telling us to get ready cause the ice age was coming. It might have been Life magazine that even had that statement on its cover. It was 25 below in Chicago and the Ohio river froze-over. All it'll take is a series of really cold winters, and a new group of arseholes will pop up and start telling us that we are somehow to blame. I'm not juming on either the warming or cooling bandwagon. Natural cycles occur, and that's just the way it is. ALSO...I too heard the story that one really good volcanic eruption could throw more crap into the atmosphere than man has done since the beginning of the industrial revolution.
I just can't stay away. It's like a disease.
Dennis, I went to a geography conference a few
years back and I remembered something you
might find interesting. There was a volcanic
eruption in the Philippines during the early 90s
that was blamed for a significant cooling of
global temps for 5 to 6 years after that. I
remember at the time it was a theory only, I
don't know if it was ever proven.
I have got to get a life....

In regards to volcanic eruptions and the "crap" it throws into the atmosphere, that crap (particulate matter) actually blocks the sun and causes global cooling. When mount Pinatubo violently erupted it threw massive amounts of particulate matter into the atmosphere. It caused red sunsets and sunrises for years. During that period of time, there was a slight but measurable cooling. I think I read somewhere that an eruption can lower the temperatue of the earth by as much as 0.3 degrees, depending on how much particulates (dust) it blows into the atmosphere. The more explosive an eruption, the more it blasts particulates into the atmosphere.
The worst thing volcanoes put out are the sulfur compounds which form acids when combined with atmospheric moisture. Volcanoes cause acid rain, BUT it's effects are relatively local when compared to the acid rain that's caused by the United States and other industrialized countries.
You cannot prove that all the CO2 that humans are putting into the atmosphere in record amounts, in amounts that have NEVER been seen before, isn't exacerbating what may or may not be happening naturally.
The fact remains and has been proven that CO2 is a greenhouse gas and it does cause warming because of how it affects infrared energy. It lets sunlight in. Sunlight heats up the earth. The earth radiates IR energy. IR is reflected back by CO2.
An example of reflected IR is what happens at night. The earth gives off heat in the form of IR. IR radiates out at night. If there are clouds in the sky, the IR is reflected back to earth. On a cloudless night, IR is not reflected back due to the lack of clouds, hence the cooler temperatures on clear nights. CO2 works in the same way the clouds do, but not nearly with as much efficiency. We're talking minute increases in the temperature. Immeasurable on a day to day basis. Cumulatively, however, we're talking about a measureable difference.
So, we lower the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, we help lower the temperature of the earth, weather patterns will go back to normal, and we won't experience the extremes in weather that we have been getting in recent years.
I suppose some of you don't even believe the theory that our sun is dying and will eventually turn into a black hole.
Do I dare ask what the nay sayers' educational backgrounds are? How many of you live within 100 miles of an active volcano and know what the effects of said volcano are?
I have spoken to several volcanologists and they all say the same thing. While a volcano does spew a lot of toxic gases into the atmosphere, it is nothing when compared to what humans spew into the atmosphere every day. Even if we had an active volcano erupting in every state, it would still be dwarfed by what humans are producing. How would I know volcanologists? I live at the base of a dormant volcano and I worked on the slopes of an active one for several years. You cannot avoid meeting volcanologists.
What's so bad about tree huggers? Did you know that a significant number of medical cures have come from forests? Do you know that there are still cures to be discovered in the forests? Something as simple as aspirin was discovered when it was extracted from plants. Did you know that a lot of fisheries depends on the life cycle of shrimp that live part of their lives in freshwater rivers? You prevent that shrimp from going up river to reproduce and you destroy the fishery in the ocean in the area of that stream because shrimp returning to the sea is what the fish eat. No shrimp? The fish starve.

What the HELL????
Clouds are now the leading cause for global warming? Well, now what do you envirometal wackos propose we do about that? I don't believe us humans are causing clouds are we? Don't remember seeing my neighbor with his cloud maker out for a long time so it can't be his fault.
Wait, someone said something about global cooling. Well which one is it? Are we cooling or warming?
POINT is humans are doing NO harm to mother earth as far as global warming. Even if that was not true, so what. The time and amount of crap we put into the air is nothing compared to the age of earth. Someday we will run out of oil and be driving other things, so relax since it will get cleaned up one day naturally anyway.
I love my gas hog and love buring up as much oil as possible also love putting all the crap in the air to cause a cloud. Just wish I could put ALOT more clouds into the sky to melt and keep the damn snow away.
Well I am going to dig up my X's box of old hair spray the kind with tons of cfc's in it. I think there is like 20 cans of that crap, anyhow I am going to release it into the sky tonight and see what happens....
hell I may light up, or pile up a sh*t load of coal and set it a blaze, for one BIG grilling thrill and release that crap in the air as well.
Some of you people are funny
THE SKY IS FALLING, THE SKY IS FALLING...
Yet you envirmental wackos dont believe in what your really saying to begin with and that is a FACT, why because your drivng a gas hog yourself.
If you don't do what you say or believe, SHUT UP!!!!!

Dennis,
I was fastinated by your work on the side of the volcano for several years. I wanted to see some of the other enlightened entries you have made and was fastinated by all the things you have done for several years and still managed to retire early. I would like to ask one question, were you ever married to Shirley Mclain in any of these lives?
