Question Question for everyone --->

Hey ive got a couple questions for everyone. I see that alot of you have nice trucks such as lightnings and have GT's or Cobras for your wifes vehicle or second vehicle, or have put alot of money into an already expensive truck, and continue to add expensive mods to them.
I was just wondering, as a freshman in college, what carrear path(s) should i consider following so i can hopefullly have a little extra cash for a couple nice vehicles one day? What have you all done to achieve good jobs and have money to buy L's, Screws, and HD's? Im a hard worker and have every summer, worked for some sort of labor positoin, (roofing, street department, landscaping, and yes 1 'Movie Gallery' during my senior year.) i also plan on working construction this summer. I was just curious as to you guys occupation(s) and any advice you have. Thanks!
-Patrick

I think it was Paula Poundstone who said , "Ever wonder why adults ask children what do you want to be when you grow up? It's because they are looking for ideas."

The question you pose is not as simple as it appears. You should get a job that you like and are good at. I don't say that to be trite: Don't chase after the money as the deciding factor for a career-You become a lawyer because they make good money, but you work 90 hours a week and have a heart attack at 42; or you become a brain surgeon because they make good money, but aren't any good at it. You can see that liking your job and being good at it are important. Don't forget that the course of study that you find boring for the four years of college can become the job you hate for the next 40.

Moving past that is they fact that it doesn't matter how much you make as much as how much you spend. I live in a very affluent area and I would be willing to bet that most (90%+) of my neighbors make more money than I do; however most of them never seem to have any money. I live simply, pay off my credit cards, pay cash for my vehicles, save the max in my 401K, and eat in alot. My father-in-law was a bricklayer his entire life and retired with $1 million in the bank plus his pension, social sec etc. So you don't need to make the big bucks to live a nice life.

Does any of this make me better, smarter, or better looking than anyone else? No. It will; however allow me to retire at 50.

I'm going with a major in Accounting and a minor in Finance and will get a masters from TCU or Wharton in Accounting.

That, or you can get a job at the local Tire Manufacturer and you and your wife work thier and pull home 150k a year.

That, or invest your money. If you invest 5k now, when you are 72 it should be around 1,000k

Looks like you out-clevered yourself Raoul. This young gentleman may not have seen the film you are referring to.

Unhappy

(Sorry Green_98, it was a joke.
A 1967 movie called 'The Graduate' starring Dustin Hoffman.)

Follow your dreams.
Don't chase the almighty dollar.

If you catch your dreams, you'll be happy.
If all you catch is the dollar, you won't.

"As a boy I walked through the valley
and gazed at the world all around
made a vow that somehow I'd find fame and fortune
I found it look at me now
I had a sweetheart who would love me forever
didn't need her; I would reign all alone
look at me I'm the king of cold lonely castle
the queen of my heart is gone
Get around me, you fools for a dollar
listen to me; a lesson you'll learn
well there's happiness and love sent from heaven above
and the fires of ambition will burn
Started out with the dreams, the plans of a wise man
ended up with the heartaches of a fool
"

'Heartaches of a Fool'
Willie Nelson

Go figure: A kid gets career advice (Plastics) and useful gifts for the future (SCUBA Gear), and winds up alternately wearing a dress or in a mental institution.

Green- All kidding aside. No one can tell you what you should do for a living. The reality is that many people choose the wrong job and regret it later. That's where most of the "mid-life crisis" comes from: A 44 year old accountant married 20 years, 3 kids, house in the 'burbs; chucks it all and becomes a hang-gliding instructor in Antigua. Don't be that guy later in life.

Follow your dreams, don't chase the almighty dollar
Exactly

It's funny how people critisize you for planning in life. Kinda like the Gov. You have to pay for other peoples stuff just cuz they dont plan.

I don't know what's worse,

a goat herder who gives advice for free or
whoever takes it.
