It's not whining, you semi-literate moron. Read more carefully, one word at a time. Sound it out if you have to. I'll probably get flamed to death on count of cyber-chivalry, but stupidity isnt specific to any gender.

Moron #1 posts some un-funny crap he didnt even write, just copied off a website somewhere (not even linking the URL to give credit) and then makes great big sweeping generalizations about all imports in the face of plenty of evidence to the contrary. Some members of this forum offer support.

Are there idiots out there with stickers and wings ? Absolutely. They deserve our contempt. They're out there in the domestic scene too (see http://www.beaterz.com)

Does a V8 layout with typically *three times* the displacement of an I4 have an advantage ? Duh, yes.

Can the differences (shortcomings) of small displacement/FWD layout be overcome with technology (in this case forced induction) -- you betcha !!

And I already have a Eaton powered 4-5 seater that runs mid-13's and gets 20-25 MPG and can carry a load of 2x4s home. But a Lightning would make it a lot easier. Those sheets of plywood are a b!tch :P

Oh, and it could be built for about half of a new L, not that that is the primary point.

Now play nice, keep this board about tech
HAHA my mistake....what was I thinking by implying that you would do something so unbelievable like whine? For a lurker, you don't pay much attention to this board. If you did you would know, the boys on this board don't need to hold my hand when it comes down to a conversation with true winners like you. By all means, feel free to continue whining about the fact that you don't whine lol

But at least the L would still have power steering, a/c and we can still drive it everyday legally.

Question I don't think $31k goes that far

when you have to start with a Honda. Remember, you need to buy/create a vehicle with factory warranty, that can tow 5000 lbs, and run sub 14 seconds in the 1/4. I don't think any of the Hondas available in the US can do this for you...

VA01Lightning, I am still one of today's youths I guess you can say ... trust me not all of us are into the import scene. I have my dad to thank for my domestic love of small blocks/big blocks, cubic inches and torque. In alot of ways I am kind of glad to see that its mostly the imports that everyone is building up now. Saves more domestic muscle for us to play with.

I'm with ya brap. I'm one of today's youth also, and in no way am i into the import scene either. I'm for true american muscle...rear wheel drive, v8, american made. I guess we're a shrinking minority with all those little ricers running around. . Just about all my friends drive ricers, only a few drive real american muscle Hopefully someday i'll have a white L to make them run and hide

I'm a child of the muscle car era, and as I look at what alot of the kids are driving today, I feel sorry for them. I remember when lowering a car was cool, then lowering the back was cool, then jacking-up the front was cool, then jacking the whole car up was cool. Now lowering is back in. All that seemed to work with Detroit iron. A lot of it was done with 'affordable' used cars. Trouble is, what's affordable today is used rice, and when the kids try to 'personalize' their burners, it just doesn't seem to work as well. I think the 'foreign' car makes the whole experience foreign to us...me anyway. Throw FWD into the mix and it's too bizarre for my taste. I think if these kids had used car lots full of Detroit V8's, things would be different. Someday those lots will be full of electric and hybrid cars. It's evolution, and there's a lot about I don't like. Maybe this is one reason my truck is a V8/rear-driver. That's still what I feel most comfortable with.

CL

TO the uninformed Car&driver reader that says his wifes CL-S can "eat a marauder for lunch"

Have you ever raced one? Have you ever driven one? Have you ever even seen one? Or have you just read about them?

My Marauder has almost 8000 miles, enough for a good break-in, and their is no way you mother or wife or daughters girl-car could touch this. BELIEVE ME

Well, we all share a common bond....we are speed enthusiasts.

I've owned Hondas and loved em'....but I love my Lightning more...it's different in every concievable way.

Speed costs money....if you owned a Yugo and put 20K into it for performance enhancements, all I can say is you had better beat me, otherwise you will feel pretty foolish..... L's are made for speed and performance, Civics are made for comfort, economy, and comfort.....

Argh... why are people so closed minded?
For some people, fast + affordable +good gas milage = modified civic.
I don't think there's one person here who doesn't understand the appeal of taking something that's not fast and making it speedy.
Seriously, what's the point of making something that's already fast faster? The other is much more rewarding.
You're not "better" than anyone because you have more cylinders.
Different tastes.
